Little bit into the season now, just wondering whether people think hendo is worth the £20 mil ? Admittedly has potential mind
He's done pretty well to be fair to the lad. I wasn't expecting him to be thrown in at the deep end and I thought Kuyt would continue to start and mentor Hendo so he was ready for next season, playing mainly cup games etc this season. Hendo seems like one of those players that wont ever grab the headlines, but you know you'll get a good hardworking performance from him every game. He hasn't done anything spectacular yet, but hasn't really done anything wrong either. As for the price - I think it was 16mil rather than 20mil and I think considering how the market will go in the next few years he'll be worth every penny of it.
Haveny been impressed if i'm being honest. I didn't know a lot about him when he played for you guys. As a result I cannot get my head around the transfer figure. It's actualy 16.5 potentialy rising to 20. I still think we should of paid 8-12 mill. We'll wait and see.
I don't think is worth £20 million and he wouldn't be if he actually cost £20 million, its lucky Liverpool didn't spend £20 million on him. I however don't think he was worth the £13 million plus add-ons that Liverpool did spend on him.
He isn't at the moment but I have a feeling that there will be a point in his career when he is worth that much
He's a central attacking midfielder, I reckon he could eventually be Gerrards successor due to the amount of energy he has. He's got the size and build to do such a job, he needs experience.
He's a right winger, I don't think he's ever played CAM for us. He's not a lot like Gerrard either, I see him more of a successor to Kuyt than anything.
Is he a right winger? When he played out there, he seemed to not be involved. Games seemed to pass him by. Kuyt isn't a right sider to begin with, he's a centre-forward, he learnt to play there for a number of reasons, he would play anywhere to keep his place and he's unselfish. I reckon Henderson would develop into a good central attacking midfielder if he was coached into the role and has enough energy to br Gerrards successor. Theres a reason he's not like Gerrard...nobody is like Gerrard.
He's fed in quite a few crosses, not as much as Downing but more than Kuyt. He's only ever played right wing or right mid for us. Kuyt is being played as a right winger, because that's where he's been forced for the last few seasons, and when I say I see him as a successor I'm talking about his attributes... hard working etc.. I'm not sure Hendo is enough of a visionary or fast enough to be a CAM, at 21 Gerrard had already established himself as a great attacking mid, Henderson is yet to properly find his feet. If he can work on his positioning and making forward runs then I think he can be an excellent right winger, equally if he could improve his vision and long passing then he could be a very good right mid.
As I said Gerrard was a one-off. Don't forget Steven Gerrard at 21 could play full-back. Gerrard is an all-rounder and probably English footballs most all-rounded midfielder ever. He has the lot in his locker, some players were specialists in one area ie tackling, or passing or goal-scoring, but although Gerrard isn't a specialist in one area, he's very good in a lot of areas. Henderson seems to have that drive and energy Gerrard has, and is quite strong. If he could as you say develop his positional sense, he could make a decent central midfielder as long as he's complimented in the middle of midfield.
Exactly. The £20 million was media nonsense. Damien Comolli has come out and said that the £20 million figure was way over the mark, Jordan Henderson cost nowhere near it. I would believe Damien Comolli over the media hacks.
I agree, in fact I don't think mentioning him in the same breath as Gerrard does the kid any favours whatsoever. I've rarely a seen a player so developed at 21 as Gerrard was. Henderson isn't now and probably never will be as good as Gerrard but not many will be so a bit of a reality check is needed with him. He was the mystery signing of the summer for me but what i've found even stranger is that he walked into the first team ahead of Kuyt. If we bought him as a player to develop then fine, give him some reserve time, some bench time and some first team minutes...but if we bought him as a first team regular then he's going to have to improve considerably and pretty damn quickly.
I never said he would be as good as Gerrard, I said he could and this is could take his place in the side. There is no player coming through at the moment at any club as good as Gerrard was at 19. Gerrard is a one-off, and is the most all-rounded English midfielder ever.
