    From The Daily Bastard (Mail):

Isn't it funny how all of those coming out in support of Bruce say he should have had more time, or because he's a Geordie or because we, the fans, expect too much? Not many mentions of his piss poor record.

It's the naughty step for Sunderland fans :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Sir Alex: Bruce lost Sunderland job because he's from Newcastle

Sir Alex Ferguson today claimed that Steve Bruce 'being a Geordie' may have contributed to his exit from Sunderland.
Bruce, a former player under Ferguson at Old Trafford, left Sunderland on Wednesday and the Manchester United boss believes he fell foul of the ruthless Tyne v Wear competition.
Ferguson said: 'Fans just don't have the patience any longer, just see what happened to Steve Bruce up in the north east where being a Geordie didn't help him.

'In that part of the world they are so passionate and committed to their football team.
'I think Brucie has suffered because of that but that's the kind of supporters we have these days - no patience.
'He rebuilt a whole team and that requires a bit of patience from everyone, including Steve. I think Steve was realising that himself that he was going to have to wait.
'There was a complete turnaround in the summer, they lost a few players in the - the boy (Jordan) Henderson, the boy (Asamoah) Gyan, Anton Ferdinand, and you need that time.
'I think losing to Newcastle earlier on in the season didn't help him either because of the way they are in that part of the world but he will be back, Steve. In general his managerial record is very good.'
Martin O'Neill is expected to be named as Bruce's successor at Sunderland and Ferguson has no doubts the Ulsterman will make a positive impact.

I couldn't care less what the rest of the football world thinks about Bruce. It's the old boys club sticking up for each other.

Wonder if the people who are critical of us would feel the same had they been watching the tripe we have for the past 11 months. I somehow doubt it

SAF can **** off as far as I'm concerned

It is actually quite insulting if you think about it. If him being a Geordie was an issue, you would have complained long before now. He was sacked because he was crap. Fergie is just sticking up for another one of his bum boys!

Utter, utter garbage by Sir Alex.
If his roots were an issue how come it took us over two years to realize where he's from!
Clark was accepted, Bruce was accepted. We have a statue for Stokoe FFS.

Didn't seem to matter Stevie was a Geordie when you beat Bolton.............jeez you would have thought he was a hero from the SAFC board.

So if he had similar results at Man U and was sacked it would be because he is Scottish?

Stokoe was accepted and won a trophy to cement his place in our history.

Clark was welcomed open arms, supported and had his name sang form the terraces - then he **** on us from a great height for being Sunderland (see the article circulated a few days ago where he is actually quoted saying he realised he couldnt have played against the filth, as a sunderland player, which is incredible). Dont let anyone tell you they are just professionals without bias.

Bruce was welcomed open armed as well and especially bu me. However a combination of his heritage and his competance were brought into question over the derby games where he allowed the former to affect the latter and that was wholly unacceptable imo. Call it what you want, unlucky, unprofessional or incompetant, he was effectively sacked for a run of 3 wins in 26 at home and a quite pathetic 2011. His b&w past caught up with him due to the failure on the pitch.

We now seem to have landed a manger who will be able to concentrate on winning games against anyone - unless its Glentoran or Belfast City FC? Lol

I think people outside of SAFC saw the chanting against Wigan, know about the (fierce) rivalry between the clubs and put 2 and 2 together and make 5.

For me, it just shows how detrimental it can be when fans resort to personal abuse instead of just chanting "Bruce out".

It really boils my blood when someone of SAF supposed status talks tripe about Sunderland fans.
Yes the personal abuse Bruce got was out of order but up till two games ago he still had a small majority backing him to turn it around.
We should be getting plaudits for our patients and tolerance not this ****.

Maybe he just has a problem with our connections to Clough, a manager with personality and better managament skills.

Q - if he wasn't a geordie would he still be manager today?

A - I don't think so because of results, and he had to beat Wigan but again had a defensive set-up

He had every chance given to him, but at the end of the day just proved himself to be a useless geordie t w a t

I'm sorry but I tend to agree to a certain extent with SAF. He could do no right in some peoples eyes and that was purely because he was a Geordie. Yes, he should be sacked for his record lately but some were calling for his head after the Newcastle game (2nd game of the season FFS) some even suggesting he was deliberately throwing derby games.
