I don't even know where to start to be honest. Was a season ticket holder when he took over and as a fan at my most prolific, following them home and away. The gradual improvement was there to see, some of it was **** so tickets were easy to come by, and contrary to myth the whole crowd were not calling for him to be sacked. Best team, the 1994 double winners, followed closely by the 1999 side. Best personal matches, excluding league games as there are too many and I'd need a good think, are the 1991 cup winners cup final as it was my first European final, the 94 cup final for the first double and, of course 99 in Barcelona. Loads really, changed the club and therefore changed my life.
My favourite SAF moment was during the interview after the 99 cl win. It's a quote ive been using myself regularly since then to describe United/football. Football, bloody hell!
Considering the greatest club manager in British football history has just passed 26 years at United this has been a pretty piss poor response. I know we'd all like to bicker about conspiracies and laugh at our rivals but there must be some memories. Berb, favourite packet of crisps while sat on ones arse whining in front of the TV for instance? Anyway, I'll go with top five best and worst signings; Best 1, Eric Cantona 2, Royston Keane 3, Peter Schmeicel 4, Ruud van Nistelrooy 5, Christiano Ronaldo 6, (special mention) Ralphy Milne Worst 1, Bebe 2, Eric Djemba Djemba 3, Massimo Taibi 4, Dong Fangzhuo 5, Gabriel Obertan. Just my opinion of course.
Best: 1. Cantona 2. Schmeichel 3. Keane 4. Ronaldo 5. Irwin Worst: 1. Veron 2. Bellion 3. Milne 4. Taibi 5. The Djemba twins Best match for me was the 3-2 in Turin in 99. Sits above the final for me, cos of how ruthlessly we came back from being goals down to score three without reply. No luck, no dodgy penalties, no 'saved by the woodwork', no needing our opponents to miss easy chances. Just defensive steel, attacking flair and being utterly ruthless. Absolute classic
The last 5 minutes of a Champions league final in 99 is one of my first memories was only 9 but watched the game with my old man. My favourite player has always been Giggs not sure about the worst there have been a couple. The best I've seen has to be Ronaldo.
Sadly not. It was a school night. Missed far too many of the best matches in pursuit of academic excellence. My parent's pursuit of excellence that is. ****ing annoying it was too - kids in my class went to to Turin and the Nou Camp whilst I was stuck studying for my A-levels. They're now probably working in a chip shop somewhere, but I still feel they got the best deal. Best match I went to for me personally was probably the first one - 4-1 vs Luton Town back in 91. Bruce with a brace, which was pretty much par for the course that season! The sound from the crowd for an eight year old was immense, particularly cos the Stretford End was still a terrace back then. Best match for quality was the 5-1 against Everton when Solskjaer scored 4. I always remember the quality of attacking football, and the sheer ruthlessness of that little assassin. He's number six in my list of best ever signings
The best matches I went to, for various reasons were; Arsenal 2 - United 6. League cup tie at Highbury on a cold wednesday night with a Lee Sharpe hat trick. Man United 2 - Sheffield Wednesday 1. For obvious reasons. Man City 2 - Man United 3. Another night game, this time at Maine Road. Two nil down at half time and the minute Eric strolled out for the second half with his collar up you knew we would win. So did the City fans. United 2- Bayern 1 - 1999 ECL final. Again, for obvious reason although it was for 85 mins utterly ****. Great week in Salou though!! United 2 - Barcelona 1 - 1991 ECWC Final. Spent the week in Amsterdam pre and post match. Enough said, wrecked for the whole time and came back grey and ill but happy. What a week.
Favourite game ( if excluding league games ) attended for me has to include the Charity Shield in 96. We had signed players like Jordi Cyruff, Poborski, Ronnie Johnson and possibly Olle in that year. Newcastle had just signed Shearer and were giving it large. Shearer made his debut - United won 4-0
Aye, that one was classic. Our second goal was awesome - Cantona with the backheel to Becks who lasered his pass right on to Butt's head. Enjoy
26 years.. It's actually 28 if you take into account the injury time.. Best game I've been too.. Hmmm dont remember that many games I went to in the 80's think I went once in the whole of the 90's.. Guess the best game I've been to was a few years ago ronnie scored a brace vs derby and won me a load of money. That said I went to the game at OT vs Liverpool and ronnie Johnson I think it was scored in the last minute to win the game, gerrard had been given stick all match as it was the season he nearly left for Chelsea.. The scousers were singing Munich songs all game and doing the aeroplane .. Even witnessed some violence after the game which was great.. Favourite game watched on tv has to be the juventus game.
Watford fan in peace. I'd say the most memorable moment was when he went absolutely nuts for Steve Bruce's winner against Sheffield wednesday in 1993. He looked absolutely ridiculous and couldnlt give a toss - fair play to him. The other best moment of course would have to be his provocation of kevin Keegan in 1996 which culminated in the funniest rant I've evr seen
