As a Life long Saints fan, I don't usually come on to other boards, but a local story caught my eye. I realise that all fans are always focussed on the here and now, but just read that Tommy Smith is selling his medals and other bits 'n' pieces. They reckon they'll raise about £120k which is probably the tea fund at Anfield. As an adopted scouser in 1977 I shared that great moment when Smith headed the 2nd goal in the European Cup Final. The man is a legend, and it seems to me that those medals belong at Anfield. It seems a shame that in days when Man City's 4th choice full back was earning £90k a week for not playing that a true great of the game should be selling stuff. I know if Mick Channon was to suggest selling his England caps, for example, I'd be on to Southampton FC suggesting that they buy them. Any chance of seeing you Reds starting a "keep Tommy's medals at Anfield" campaign?! See you next year.
I hope someone at Anfield buys them off Tommy and puts them in the LFC museum. That's where they belong, not bought up by a fat, American "collector" It's not even a weeks wages for Stevie . surely he can afford it?
I feel sure that the club will do something about this. I can't believe they will stand by and let Tommy do this. He is indeed a true legend. Thanks for your kind thoughts mate
it'll be done privately and quietly cos players or whomever don't want it publisied. also grealty looking forward to southamptopn coming back. sick of weak assed midland bus aprkers and can't wait for some south coast competition...
He sold his items in seperate lots in an auction house in Chester. He made around £150,000. The biggest amount was £15,000 for his 60's FA Cup medal v Leeds(our 1st ever win in that competition) He got £12,000 for his 77 EC winners shirt.
