We’ve still got Burns to come back into the squad, too. He was looking the real deal when he picked up his injury. The openers played very well today and their patience allowed Stokes and Pope to play a few of their shots at the end to push the score on a bit.

I’m a little worried about our strength in depth in the batting department because for a few years now I’ve looked and we’ve always been solid until about 9. Now we’ve got Buttler at 7 and then into the bowlers and none of those really fill me with confidence, tbh.

I agree about test cricket. 5 days must stay, too. Test cricket is a test of will, patience, stamina, fatigue, tactics. That’s the beauty of it. If you take away a day then you’re just encouraging one day style batting and I don’t think there’s any appetite for that with dedicated cricket followers. It would completely ruin it for me.

Can I like this 100 (not out)times please. Excellent post:emoticon-0150-hands

The other thing to remember about this particular tour, is that a lot of players (including Root) have had an illness that has caused diarrhoea? Not great prep for playing in the heat.

Boycott I believe used to take his own crates of bottled water...

For what it's worth:

Mark Wood > Archer currently (even ignoring the batting)

Mostly due to the fact Archer just needs a rest. Personally I'd send him home and get him back firing on all cylinders in the summer. He could be a great player but I'm worried we're going to burn him out.

Yep atm he plays all 3 forms of the game...fast bowlers need to train and rest to he at their best... they use the most energy of all cricketers.. build up endurance and strength...

Simply the Bess, only the weather can save SA now, could be a follow on ?
It's not the norm to enforce nowadays but given the breaks in play, the limited overs the seamers are bowling and the loss of time then I suspect Root would be correctly lynched by the press if he didn't enforce
