Anybody on here interested in the Ryder Cup? With QPR not playing over the weekend, it will be something to watch. I'm going for a very hard fought draw with Europe to retain the cup.
Can't see us getting any more than a narrow defeat given the way the course has been altered to allow for wayward driving but it should be an excellent few days of golf. There's value in backing Europe if you fancy it.
All I know is every time the yanks tee off, it will be "your the man" and "in the hole" even on the par 5's And about 25% of the coverage will be showing the wives standing around watching in between adverts every 5mins My advice is not to watch the ****e, its really annoying
sky coverage is superb...bbc sh*te. fancy Europe by 2 point margin. all out top boys play out there now so no real home advantage. top points scorer luke donald
It's the third biggest sporting event in the world. Huge excitement generated. In McIlroy and Colsartes we have two huge hitters. The course is being set up for birdies. Can't wait.
It'll be great, however, with all the shots of the American player's wives, I'll be constantly thinking of the opening scene in Family Guy : Blue Harvest - sepscially if Phil Mickleson makes an appearance....
It should be a capital offence to shout "get in the hole!", especially for a tee shot on a par 4 or 5. I struggle to watch it any more with the yank crowds as they are so ******ed.
Is it really Nuts? I find that hard to believe but i dont doubt your knowledge..... How do they come to that decision. I'd say after the obvious World cup and Olympics that the F1, superbowl,Wimbledon or even Ashes would be up thier, not forgtting Euro's, NBA Basketball finals, and the Champion League.....? Would be intrested to know...? personally i cant get on with golf. tried it once and just dont have the patience, although i can definately admire and understand the skill and desire required. i worked at the Lakes inSydney a few years ago and was there when a tournament was on. Great week of golf but i still dont like the game.
Value wise it doesnt even break the top 10, nor does it spectator wise. I dont think it would break into the top 10 in the world for viewing figures either as it has no interest outside of Europe and the US.
Golf is not allowed in our house just on the basis on the twats you play it and their poor dress sense. Each to their own but mix golf with a English corporate culture and you have the cancer that is eating away at Britain Chomp Chomp Chomp "Of course off the course I wear Superdry" male grooming twats
No massive knowledge here Queens just that sky sports said that the Ryder cup has the third largest viewing figures in world sport. Incredible I know but that's what they said
Thats certainly what I would have said mate. Think Sky got that one very wrong In my humble opinion?! NBA finals would also be up there to be sure....
The Ryder Cup is a good one to watch on TV ... with the sound down. Can't stand the constant, ape like chants of "U S A". The chanting is almost as bad as the screaming/grunting of some tennis players when they hit the ball.
Sky just hype their own sports, youd never know F1 existed before they got the rights to it. Same goes for cycling until they got their doped up team, I have no doubts they will get the rights to the TDF now as well.
World Cup and Olympics certainly, but I'm not so sure about the Superbowl's appeal outside of North America and any die-hard fans of the sport elsewhere. The ryder Cup certainly has comparable viewing numbers in the US, and has arguably more viewers across Europe and the globe than the Superbowl gets. No evidence to back this up (there's no evidence for anythng in this thread as far as I can see) but that's my gut feel.
"A good walk spoiled" as Oscar Wilde quite rightly said. I have golf firmly down as a 'game' rather than a sport much like darts or snooker. It would not exist as a spectator sport were it not for the fact that fat business execs often see it as a badge needed to join the elite club of toadying pole climbers. And the worst time of all is when these fat, overpaid, middle class walkers pretend to be playing as a team rather than as money grubbing individuals. In a year of such great sporting achievements we surely can't be so desperate...
Grunting in womens tennis is one of my pet hates. Why does it afflict the womens game so much? Maria Sharapova is one of the worst offenders. It is done purely to put the opponent off. When will the tennis authoritis ban this behaviour?
