So John Terry has called time on his England career. I for one am not sorry and I hope he is punished by the FA for the incident with Ferdinand. However I welcome your thoughts as to whether an opportunity will present itself now for ShawX to be drafted into the England squad. On current form I think he deserves a call-up as I think he is back to his best. Looking at CBs that are currently in the squad or are available I think he is as good as Cahill and Ferdinand and better than Lescott and Jagielka. Others in the frame are Phil Jones and Chris Smalling but I prefer Ryan to Smalling. It will be interesting to see what happens with the next squad selection. If current form is a factor then ShawX must surely be considered. But of course, he plays for us and Woy is the current England manager so perhaps I shouldn't hold my breath.
Me neither PP, I think the lad deserves it, but you don't always get what you deserve. Which brings me onto to evil scrote Terry, the same low life that was pissed up in a hotel at Heathrow, full of American tourists on the day of 9/11, with his Chelsea chums taking the michael out of said tourists, parking in a disabled bay outside a Pizza Hut in his Bentley, with his children, what a role model!!! Never mind as a centre half, Ryan is 10 times the man than Terry will ever be. And that is good enough for me, you guys probably know that my prime atribute about a human being is Honour - Terry has none - in trumps.
I don't think his last 2 performances have done him any harm being man of the match, I would pick him ahead of Lescot any day of the week but Woy may feel he doesn't get the big match experience that some of the others do playing for the bigger clubs. I would love to see him in an England shirt or even the squad as I think he could get some valuable experience from it.
He has zero chance! Firstly he plays for Stoke and secondly his form last season wasn't of a higher enough standard and he was often out performed by Huth! On a serious note, until Stoke begin to play the ball out from the back and Shawx shows composure on the ball with the ability to pass, he will NEVER be considered for England. This is highly unlikely to happen under the guidance of TP and alo because we never play with proper FBs who make it possible for CBs to pass rather than hoof!
Smithers I agree with you to some extent. Ryan does just tend to (hoof it, get rid of the ball at all costs) apart from the occasional blip which will happen. That said Smither's, have you ever wondered as to why Ryan was called up just after the Ramsey inccident? But, from what I remember he didn't even train with the squad. And the ONLY player who seemed to make him welcome was Steven Gerrard. It's a strange situation tbh. My heart say's that Ryan's recent form he deserves a call up at least. My head say's whilst he's at Stoke it won't happen. As for re-placing JT the guy is a low life, highly overated for England and a bad influence on the younger generation. As you say Smithers, Walters can "give it his all and usually does" That does not mean he's a great player as some are making Terry out to be. Matthews, Best, Hudson, Banks, Charlton they were great not John Terry. Nicky said it all really. I hope Terry gets a massive ban as Suarez did. The ONLY thing that won't change for the England squad is that we'll never win any major trophies. Seem's rediculous that we won the World Cup in 66 which I remember very well. IS IT really 46 years, yes of course and we've won nowt since then.
As everyone's said, he should be in with a chance, but probably won't be. And as for Terry, I don't think he is over-rated as so many make out, but the guy is clearly a dick. Also, Rio Ferdinand is a dick too, I hope he never gets back in the team either. Claiming he was calling A. Cole fake with the choc ice comment. Go have a little looky for what "choc ice" is meant to mean, the only definitions you'll find are "derogatory phrase meaning black on the outside, white on the inside" and that of an ice cream covered in chocolate. Edit- I know what he means by trying to play it down as meaning fake, but it's a poor excuse for something that's a bit racist really.
Sandor I said this on the Chelsea board last night! Ferdinand, A and Rio plus Terry should have shaken hands over this months ago. Rio is another big headed cnnut. Colour is only skin deep Sandor. If a black person calls a white person. A white b****** is that not racist? For what it's worth I think Rio is a complete T*T too!
I think the difference is that Shawxs form prior to the Ramsey incident was very excellent but (IMO) his form since has been far Below that of a potential international. It will also be compounded by our club form and only 4 wins in 25+ prem games doesn't suggest you are playing well and our -17 goal difference would suggest we are poor defensively!
Very interesting quote from Ian Wright "His no nonsense, all-action approach has worked well for Stoke - but is he really CULTURED enough for international football"? I personally think he is, but is unable to show it under the TP master plan. I would bet my house that if he did play for England and developed his game to show he can pass etc.... he would be bought at the very next transfer window by a big club!
Re Terry , i don't like the guy , but to be fair i think he genuinely wanted to shake Anton's hand in the recent game against QPR and he seemed to be truly upset when his proffered hand was'nt accepted. Re ShawX , now that the Man U / Chelski old clique at the back has been broken up i think he's got more of a chance of at least being included in the squad. His passing back to front has improved this year and i've noticed more of the "bigger" clubs doing it .
I remember the first time I saw ShawX play for Stoke, I think it was while he was on loan, we were in the Championship and it was an evening game at the Brit where the admission was reduced to £5. I noticed during the warm-up that he looked very confident and cultured, I could tell he had been a product of Man Utd. I have always liked him and would be delighted to see him selected for England. However many of you watch him more often than I do and the style of football TP advocates has probably stifled much of the 'culture' he had.
I think the master plan of "that man" and the fact that Ryan hasn't had quality players around him to pass out too has affected his game, lets face it would you feel confident passing out to the midfield players we have had prior to the recent signngs? Hopefully things will improve now we actually have a midfield.
Ryan seems to have had more time to play the ball in the last couple of games which I think is a result of the new players.
I think the issue is that we are fully aware that we are in a results related business/league. If we dont start picking up some points or get that 1st win soon, TP might revert to type rather than progressing as we all think he is - he loves an excuse to do what he does best!
Totally agree, it seems every time we start to play a little (even when we've had a crap midfield), it doesn't take a lot for TP to revert to type. I known we're never likely to he compared to the likes of Swansea (last season, at least) but they got a few battering and carried on playing. As you all know, I'm a bit of a Pulis fan, and I've been all for his defence/ survival tactics, and known he was never going to change things too quickly, which is why I've never been too disappointed with anything we've seen so far in the PL, but by now we need to be aiming a bit higher. With this seasons signings it looks like that could happen. N'Zonzi and Adam are doing well, and if Owen stays fit enough to make an impact then we shouldn't have much problem progressing and getting a top 10. We've got some quality on the pitch now, we're only lacking fullbacks really, and what we've got don't do that bad a job. For me this is our most important season (for Pulis anyway), again I think there's no chance of going down, but if he can't keep up the play we've seen the last couple of games, or can't handle the better players we're signing, there's no more excuses. But back to the point of the thread, if we can carry on how we are and get more/better results playing like that, there should be no reason for players to miss their chance to play for England, just because the play for little old Stoke.
As an outsider it seems to me as if Stoke players have no chance of being called up due to the stigma attatched to Stoke and the long ball, tough tackling image Pulis has created whille at Stoke. They don't like calling players up who don't play for high profile clubs as it is, its an even bigger battle for Stoke due to your image. If Shawcross was signed by Spurs in January he'd be in the squad within 3 months IMO.
As we've all said on here before Lucass.. I personally put the blame on Pulis but I'm hoping that we've improved our midfield by a county mile now. Still, I won't hold my breath.
