Because he's a professional footballer and I'm interested in professional football and the characters within the game. Anyway this stuff's a two way road. People laud him constantly for being an icon, a brilliant bloke, a role model, a guy quietly getting on with his life, one of the good eggs in football who's not a ****er, Sports Personality of the ****ing Year. I don't live my life through him, nor am I generally interested in celeb culture whatsoever. What pleasure is there to be derived?
