I've just seen on the BBC website, Man. U. fans have voted Giggs the best player ever for Man. U.

I have to admit he's good! Better than Georgie? I don't think so.

Thoughts from the older ones amongst you :(

Probably not as brilliant on one off occasions but did it for longer, won more and still creates moments of magic himself. FA Cup goal against Arsenal must rank up there with Bests best? I thought Phil Mulryne was a shoe in for this award tbh

Maybe it's because Giggs has been around for ever, and has managed to steer clear of controversy during that time ( something you could never say about GB).

Better than Best, though? Never! <ok>

To be fair Giggs, like his manager is exceptional and both have been with Manchester for a very, very long time.

Giggs has two very important things in his favour. One is that he's a current player, and the other is that he's played for United for his entire career.

No- one can possibly doubt Giggs´s loyalty which is sometimes in short supply these days, but to be considered as the best ever player for Utd. - no sorry! not for me. Best could be Best, or Law, or what about Charlton?

His the best Man Utd player I have ever seen (im 27) and its always hard comparing players from different generations. Think its safe to say they are both the best of there generation. Fair comprimise??

The trouble with these sorts of polls is that a lot of the people who vote in them have only seen the current candidates, because of their age. You're obviously going to be more influenced by someone you know well, rather than someone you've just heard about or seen on old video clips taken when the camera technology wasn't so good as it is now. For what it's worth, I'm going to throw another United player in to the mix - Duncan Edwards. Had he not been killed in the Munich air crash, he may have gone on to be recogised as their best ever player, but that's only this old man's opinion. (And before you ask, I'm not a United fan, my loyalties are with the one and only Green & Yellow, not Norton Heath, or whatever they were called before they became Man Utd).

Giggs never got to sh*g Miss World so clearly Best was the man. Of course Giggs was a better pro than Best and kept at the top of his game much longer but Best was a genius. I will always regret that I never got to see him in the flesh as he went on one of his disappearances for ManU the week before he was due to play at Carrow Road in the the 72-73 season (City lost 0-2 that day). He missed that game and his career was approaching it's end.

W-l-o-h, that's out of order, remember what I said, banter has to be amusing, not offensive! I've deleted your post, and I'm giving you fair warning, this will not be tolerated

Only time i saw Best live was in one of the first City away games I ever went to, which was at Old Trafford in 1967!

That was before he started going doolally through the booze etc. Went with me dear old Da, God rest him. What a day that was as City pulled off the FA Cup shock of the day! :smiley-finger007:

It feels now like it was in another life! Short clip here:

also a canary old enough to have seen duncan edwards, albeit on tv and newsreels. at 18 he was as good as there was at that time and could have gone on to be the worlds best ever, but probably died too young to make a sound judgement. giggs third best (sic) but best and law ahead of him in my opinion.
