Have just been made aware of the supposed 'deal' under which we signed Bennett from Posh on deadline day. I know we loaned him back to them for a month, but this link suggests they can take a replacement on loan when Bennett arrives here. But we're not exactly awash with fit defenders Have also seen (albeit on twitter) that PL is planning a £1.5m bid for Forest's Chris Gunter?? http://www.football365.com/peterborough/7553162/No-panic-over-defensive-loan
i don't think that article is factually correct cromer. the press release from norwich said that we loaned him back to posh to give them time to find a loan replacement, not to take one of our own players on loan if they wish - although of course, they are welcome to ask i'm sure! maybe barnett but i doubt he'd drop down to be honest. the gunter rumour has resurfaced from january. could well be some truth in it if we can't keep naughton.
The following it will not be: Ward - getting better, lambert will want to give him a chance Martin - too valuable in CB cover Naughton - unthinkable, not in a million years, our best defender Drury - unthinkable, too much loyalty Whitbread - 1st choice, would be mad to drop a division Ayala - currently injured, just settled The only potential candidates are: Barnett - 5th choice and will be 6th when R.Bennett arrives, most probable contender Tierney - Drury playing well, Naughton able to cover LB in emergencies and with not too many games left in the season, perhaps Lambert will firstly, send him on loan to get regular match time and recover fitness faster, and secondly, if the "feud with Morison or whatever is being rumoured" is true, give him some time out. I believe that no-one has discussed this possibility?
I'd like to get an early protest in about signing a "Gunter". Are there no more Martins, Bennett/Barnetts or Rudd/Ruddys out there for us? How are we supposed to keep up to Norfolk stereotyping standards if we're looking to sign people who don't sound like they're related?
Posh V Doncaster last weekend. Finished 1 - 1, goals scored by Barnes and Barnett. Barnett headed home from Ryan Bennett's assist Earlier, Kyle Bennett wasted a good chance to put Donny ahead. Who'd be a commentator at that one
Ryan Bennett put in a superb right-wing cross for the equaliser, not bad at all for a 6'3" centre-half
I definitely remember listening to an interview on a local radio station with their owner (MacAnthony). In that interview, he was asked if Norwich were allowing a loan to them when Bennett leaves. The response was that indeed we were if needed, and that it wasn't a young player, but a squad player.
maybe you are right but our club didn't say that. what was the point in loaning him back if that was the case? why didn't they just take our mystery player on loan at the time?
I heard we offered barnett on loan for a month to them so we could get him straight away but barnett didn't want to leave so we loaned him back for a month so they had time to get a loan in.
So by the sounds of it, we signed the player, loaned him back to Peterborough so they could get some cover in, and when they fail to manage that, we loan them one of our squad players? If we spent £2-3mil on him, and made all those concessions to Peterborough, what were they after before?
According to Grant Holt on twitter the Tierney Morison feud was a load of rubbish, mind you if he said it was true on a social media site he wouldn't be too popular with Lambert. I think we'll see Drury and Barnett go. Not too sure on Ward at the moment, against Swansea he kept us in the game but I reckon his future will depend on how the rest of season pans out.
I think I speak for all Norwich fans when I say that regardless of whether this is true it is fantastic to still be getting linked to this type of young talented player. Got "Lambert Player" written all over him if we can't get naughts
i'm with you on ward northants. jury still out in terms of whether he can cut it in the premier league.
i thought he played very well. my doubts aren't based on anything i've seen in the last couple of games, its based on his annoying habit of falling asleep for five minutes most games and make a mistake. he's a classy player and is in a similar mould to whitbread who i think has had an excellent season since returning from injury. i'm not saying get rid - just that i think he'd be the one to drop down to accommodate bennett before ayala or whitbread
There is hardly an established "order" with our rotation policy, I would be more than happy to see any combination of Whitbread, Ayala, R.Martin, Ward or R.Bennett at CB, just not Barnett, who I personally see as a liability.
