http://www.manutd.com/en/Tour2012Te...-ferguson-on-van-persie-and-lucas-moura.aspx# Question though wouldn't you guys rather buy a younger more hungry striker like lewandowski or damiao (would have said llorente but hes 27)
Not really, both are unproven in our league and how on earth would van Persie NOT be hungry given he's won **** all while at Arsenal?
I think it's a gamble. A bit like Berbatov. Great for spurs but found it difficult to adapt to our style. If he fits he could score a hatful like RVN. Remains to be seen whether he will gel with Rooney... We probably need a mdfield playmaker more than a striker.
We definitely need midfield reinforcements but I think we're good for creation, surely Kagawa is lined up for that. We need a new engine in midfield really. A Keane type. They are few and far between though. I don't see van Persie as a gamble mind, Moura definitely would be though.
Well we always knew we were interested. What strikes me from that article is that we seem unlikely to actually sign him since Arsenal dont want to sell him to us. Anyway although he is an undoubted talent we need a CM a lot more (as we have done for a few years now)
moura money was insanity but i think jovetic may be the best compromise going by what you guys are saying.
Arsenal dont want to sell but RVP wants to come here and he holds the cards really. in 4 months he can leave for a fraction and even without CL football we could take him for our league and the extra strength in depth it brings, he will also be able to agree a deal with a club.
Didn't Wenger say he was willing to keep him and let him go for free at the end of his contract? I doub't we will sign RVP anyway to be honest, I can't see Fergie offering anywhere near what Wenger apparently wants for him.
Wenger apparently wants well over £20 mill, that's a lot of money for a 29 year old player with a history or injuries and only a year left on his contract, I really can't see anyone meeting that valuation, Juve have apparently already lost interest and are looking elsewhere.
Our bid stands at £20million apparently so not to far off. I doubt they would keep him and not sell considering he can sign for another club from january and his head may end up anywhere but arsenal.
It's always hard to say no to a world class player which RVP is but I am concerned it could hamper the delopment of Welbeck and reduce playing time for him and Hernandez.
Lewandowski is not good enough.... have you seen much of the lad? He's big, strong, mobile and a good finisher, I've not seen enough to convince me that Damiao is any better.
maybe but it could also benefit them by giving them playing time with one of the best strikers in the world. Actually 2 of the best strikers.
with RVP we would win the league, welbeck and hernandez would still get plenty of game time, Fergie is capable of fitting 4 strikers in especially when 2 or them can play in multiple positions quite easily. if he plays 100 games over 4 years thats 25 a year with us playing closer to 60, plenty of room.
we need to be so much more clinical in front of goal, I know its only pre season but 3 goals in 5 games isnt good enough, saying that RVP would be a fantastic signing whatever hapens.
