SAF has labelled him as the new Hero of Old Trafford, for me Cantona is the Greatest player to grace the Old Trafford pitch, but losing the league on goal difference and then signing the best striker in the PL, you can't argue that he is the difference, but where does he stand after just one season, I for one think in a year or 2 he will be up there with our greatest players of all time, what are your thoughts? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImVEfsHMruo&feature=youtube_gdata_player Van Persie volley v Villa
George Best was the best player to ever play for United, George Best was one of the most gifted footballers in history even if he didn't make the most of it he was still gifted with unbelievable talent. Cantona didn't have half the skill George had in his left shin Best Charlton Ronaldo Ruud van nistelrooy Giggs All of those were better than RvP and Cantona
Ryan Giggs is the greatest player to play for Utd. No one player will ever achieve what he has in the game
This just displays ridiculous ignorance my man. Best and Charlton are United legends indeed, Cantona is right up there just behind them and to suggest otherwise is just mad. It's not about whether you think there are 'better' players than him, it's about what he did, sparked, created, was the catalyst for. He was the spark that started all this, thirteen league titles later is that legacy. Of course it is down to Fergie but the ONE player who sparked the club into action is Eric Cantona. Which is why he will always be top of many fans, including mine, list of greatest ever reds. Eric Cantona changed my life for the better, as daft as that sounds it is completely true.
in with a shout no doubt. But on actual footballing skill it has to be best for me. A George Best in modern times would have not gone the way he did for me and would be challenging Messi for all of the awards. Giggs as much as I deplore the guy as a man, has been brilliant up till 2 years ago, age has caught up with him but still very impressive to be playing at his age
cantona United legend, you are a United fan so I won't\can't argue but fk off with your start to the post you arsehole Cantona united legend global footballing nothing
Bit like Dalglish then. A world legend only in the heads of Liverpool fans, otherwise absolutely ****ing no one.
Best Charlton are before my time, and are legends of football not just united, I am guided only by what I have seen in my 34 yrs and there is 1 player who changed Man Utd and that was Cantona, he was our missing piece, changed how Man Utd played, yeh Giggs is a living legend, Nistlerooy great striker, Ronoldo well I don't need to say out on him, but in MY opinion Cantona was and is the Greatest player to grace Old Trafford, anyway the comparison was between Cantona and Van Persie, not for someone to list there order of united legends in THEIR opinion!
Yeh certainly is, I don't care about what people write, great if you got an opinion, but atleast answer my question if ya want to spout off!
If he changes shirt no to 21 then I think the rest of the PL will be in trouble! Personally I don't think RVP will be the new Cantona, because we aren't in the same situation we were in when Cantona arrived. Like Windy says, back then we were 25 years without a title and our team was lacking in natural winners. Right now we have a team packed with players who have won the title and CL on multiple occasions so the potential for a Cantona-esque impact is limited. RVP also plays the game in a different way to Cantona - he's more efficient and clinical but doesn't have the personality to dominate games by force of will and doesn't drag the rest of the team forwards with that force. That's partly cos he doesn't need to, but also cos only Keane and occasionally Gerrard have come close to matching Cantona for sheer character and unwillingness to accept defeat or mediocrity in the PL.
