That is some detail in that source. Are they going to broadcast the meeting or something? Anyway, it's good that they are talking now and not letting it drag. If I was Arsene, then I would look to seek a definitive answer from RVP on his future. If he does leave, I hope RVP leaves early and gives us time to recruit a new CF.

the only thing that's worrisome about offering RVP so much money if he then get's injured for a long time, that would basically be record amount of money being wasted down the drain, and knowing our luck, it's more than likely.

Yep, the way our luck with injuries has gone this season, I'm sure this would happen.

You can't not sign the contract for the best player in the Premier League on the off-chance that he might get injured. Winners don't pussy out on the basis of "what ifs".

    Then we're losers.

With that mentality we're never going to sign any world class players, because the money will be too much "if he gets injured". Meanwhile other clubs who aren't being pussies about it will be signing the good players instead of worrying about it, and winning stuff.

You don't win trophies by being conservative.

Other clubs the likes of man city have far more resources. It'll be a Leeds like gamble if we play our cards like that. In any case I would rather we not give in to players demands like that. Assuming Rvp wants to leave or if he stays purely for the money I doubt he will play to his full potnential. I hope he wants to stay but all these reports are making me nervous.

The club has to work out what Van Persie is worth. It has to be something we can afford.

If it comes down to spending every penny available leaving nothing for any other players then we cant afford him. Collect the 30M+, pat yourself on the back that you have Podolski as a fairly good replacement and move on.

It comes down to this. With RVP, we have a chance of winning something next season. Without him, we don't. It's as simple as that. I don't want to hear quibbling over "what he's worth" when we're talking about a player who's the difference between winning trophies or not.

We had RVP this season and we didn't win, in fact we were not very close.

Love him as a player, but keeping him and doing nothing else, would be less ambitious than letting him go and trying to build a team that can win with the money.

I want him to stay, but not at an expense that rivals the stadium, and consigns us to another 5 years of penny pinching.

If re-signing RVP would wipe out the budget, then the budget is nowhere near big enough, we have so much in the coffers. If he was allowed to leave, a replacement would cost far more than his increase in salary. Unless of course there are no plans to sign a replacement.
If he leaves and goes abroad we should thank him wish him well, and welcome him home whenever he comes back, but I really couldn't take it if he joins the Manc Mercenaries.
We have become feeder clubs for them and Barcelona in the last few tears, and this has got to stop.

Did anyone else pick up the fact that this meeting is happening at Wenger's house ?

Maybe Arsene has a secret weapon? Like baking RVP's favourite cupcakes for him to try and tempt him into staying.
Or failing that, maybe he has a dungeon in the basement where he can lock RVP up if he says he wants to leave ?
