    Head-to-head
    • The two countries met in a friendly last November. Russia ran out 2-1 winners but neither of their scorers, Fyodor Smolov or Dmitri Tarasov, are part of their World Cup squad. Kim Shin-Wook had earlier given South Korea the lead.
    Russia
    • Russia have not progressed out of the group stage of the two previous World Cups they have qualified for since they gained independence from the Soviet Union (1994 and 2002).
    • Three of the five goals conceded by Russia in qualifying came after the 90th minute mark.
    • Fabio Capello has lost just twice in 20 matches as Russia manager, both 1-0, to Portugal and to Northern Ireland. He has a win percentage of 60%.
    • Russia have only kept one clean sheet in their last six World Cup games, a 2-0 win against Tunisia in June 2002.
    • Alexander Kokorin, aged 23, was the youngest player to score 10 or more goals in the Russian Premier League in 2013-14.
    South Korea
    • This is South Korea's eighth straight World Cup appearance; only Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Spain can boast a longer current streak.
    • The Taeguk Warriors have begun each of the last three World Cups with a win: v Poland in 2002, Togo in 2006 and Greece in 2010.
    • Yet South Korea have only won two of their last 10 World Cup games (against Togo in 2006 and Greece in 2010).
    • South Korea have scored the most direct free-kicks (five) in the World Cup since 1990.
    • Kwak Tae-Hwi, at 31, is the only player in the squad aged over 30 (Russia have seven).

Really looking forward to this one. My adopted home versus the ever unpredictable Russians. None of the Koreans I've spoken to are confident at all about this world cup, which is very surprising, because they are usually quite a cocky bunch. A few of their players have retired and they've had some shoddy friendly results of late, including a 4-0 loss to Ghana.

On paper, Kokorin and Kerzhakov should be too tricky for the Koreans, but the Russians might fade quickly in the humidity. The heat won't affect the Koreans much at all, their players always have incredible fitness and energy, and the summers here are damn humid anyway, so they'll be used to it. I'll go for 1-1.

    Come on you Taeguk Warriors!!!

Wasn't sure whether to play Park Choo-Young or Kokorin in my fantasy team for this game. Went for Kokorin.

I'd have done the same. I've got three Russians in my team. So now I've got this fantasy/reality conundrum, who to cheer for?!

I really hope we get to see Kim Shin Wook. Use him on FIFA lot's with Ulsan Hyundai and he is great, want to see him in real life please. Black, do you know much about him?! I love his nicknames too, according to Wiki he is known as 'Our Giant' "Wookie" or "Chopper" by Ulsan fans.

Alan Dzagoev, is he the player of Euro 2012 where he finished joint top scorer? Haven't seen Capellos russian team but going by his previous jobs, his teams are defensive so not expecting the same type of attack minded Russians but hope to see Alan Dzagoev put on a show!

BBC fielding the 'B' team tonight: Mark Chapman hosting with Phil Neville, Danny Murphy, and Neil Lennon as the pundits.

Russia going for the domestic approach too, then. That said I can't really think of any notable Russians outside their league.

Any reason why Dzagoev isn't starting? I thought he was one of the better Russian players.

He didn't score in qualification (his last goal was in 2012), perhaps he didn't play much?

Played less than twenty times for Cska this season, not sure if he's struggled with injury?
