As always I´m really not sure Whether a Cup run would be good, Sometimes it can act as a cure If things aren´t going as they should, So maybe for two or three rounds It wouldn´t be such a bad thing, As well as the incoming pounds There´s the effect a few wins would bring, So I´d say in our current state Even with a depleted squad, Getting through to the Round 4 date Would help to give us all a prod, Not least of all ´Wolf´ who must be Itching to get scoring again, And if he can, regularly It would leave more options open, But there at the back of my mind Is a picture of those who´ve failed, To stay in this league when they find It´s too hard with a Cup run, to scale, But here at this earliest stage There´s no real reason not to win, And revenge would be sweet, I´ll wage After Boxing Day´s thump on the chin, And as a psychological boost There is nothing quite to compare, With, when coming back home to roost To make up for cold Christmas fare. I think we are more in danger of going down this year than last so I think better if it's a short one! Wouldn't it be great if we were like 8th then we could have a real crack at winning something.
Or you could argue the confidence gained from a good run in the cup could be just what we need, I think the loss to Luton last year was quite detrimental to our confidence.
It's a tricky one I think we were the first primer league side to be knocked out by a non league team. Our season went to pieces after that.
I think I´m a bit more for one this year, at least for a few rounds, especially if it will help to get ´Wolf´ up and running.
Food for thought RBF, definitely food for thought! I won't be too upset if we fail to qualify for round 4!
Spot on RBF. If having a run got RVW firing on all cylinders I would be well up for it, just imagine Hooper and RVW at home playing together on form it would be great.
On the other hand, if we go out, it may create a few problems for Fulham with a crowded fixture list!
I'm watching the worst game of football I have seen recently on sky. Gillingham vs Wolves. Cody Mac is playing, wow we have come a long way since those days.
Sign of the times we even have a thread like this. I am old school. You go out to win everything you enter. Premiership has destroyed the soul purpose of the game. Lambert is right on some ways, what's the point in entering if you do not want to win it as the cost of doing that at the expense of getting relegated is the concern of boards. The whole aim of our club now us just to stay in the league just because of the money. Wining anything other than keeping up is a secondary aim I'm afraid.Makes you think what is the point of even going tomorrow ( which I am). The reason I go is I want to win as a City fan. Fans have not lost the want to win things ( although some so called fans are saying it us not a problem us going out tomorrow) . Clubs have other priorities now, so if they do not put out their best team to win, why bother even entering anymore?
Like it or hate it surgeryman, I´m afraid that is what the game has become, survival in the Premier League at all costs. Crazy money has turned the game on its head.
Win every game you play. First time I have ever disagreed adamantly with Lambert. I was really jealous of Swansea and Wigan last year.
I was quite jealous of wigan and swansea too last year, currently though I'm very glad that we're not in Europe, I would have put a massive strain on our squad which I don't think we would have been able to cope with.
Lambert had a habit of saying what he thought people wanted to hear (or perhaps that's what people thought he said...) and then he'd go and do whatever he fancied
To be honest, I'd rather have beaten them in the league a week ago, have 23 points while they have 16, a 7-point gap to the bottom three instead of a 3-point gap. But that's history now and let's try to win today and finally overcome our Fulham jinx.
I too would have preferred three points to a Cup win but I think it would be great given last year's debacle. Not only this but it may give a lift to some fringe players and break the Fulham hoodoo. Importantly, we play them just before our last four (who are currently the top four). A win today will end the 'we can't beat Fulham' talk.
