I agree to be honest. You will be fine (unfortunately). To even have the slightest chance of overtaking you, I believe one of Chelsea/United or Arsenal would have to win all their remaining games, which I just don't see happening as none of them are consistent or good enough. I know you've lost 12 games, which is generally considered to be quite bad for a team in the top 4, but you've only drawn once and have won around two-thirds of your matches (which is what football is largely about - winning), so I don't think anyone can accuse you of being 'lucky' in that regard. And although some of you have expressed concern about player fatigue, you've got enough firepower to put away Bournemouth (whose style of play will suit you) and Everton at home (who you always beat). You will finish 3rd. 4th is much harder to call, but if United win tomorrow, I'd have my money on them as their last two games are Huddersfield and Cardiff.
Mentality is generally our problem. Fatigue is obviously huge don’t get me wrong but that weren’t why we lost today, too many players had their head already focused on Tuesday and so gave a half arsed performance in a London Derby which frankly is unnaccepatbale. If we weren’t so ****ed injury wise, Alli wouldnt even be in the squad for Tuesday, was disgusted by his display today, his worst in a spurs shirt in my opinion. If you wanna be a big player for a big club, every game matters.
Interesting to see if there’s any change in view from someone with regards to a certain someone’s absence. 0-1, 1-0, 0-1 in our last three league games. But yeah, we don’t need Europe’s most complete striker.
I can see both Chelsea and Arsenal winning tomorrow. United look shot to me and Leicester lost at home to Newcastle in their last home game. That would effectively rule united out cos of their inferior goal difference.
Obviously you watch your team more than I do, so you would know more, but from an outsider looking in, it does seem like you have a number of players who have played an awful lot of minutes this season. I think you are also right about your players having one eye on Tuesday and perhaps thinking they just needed to turn up today and get the victory. However, isn't it your first ever Champions League semi-final appearance? Though it is wrong and unprofessional, I can kind of understand why your players would be distracted by that. But I also think playing Foyth at RWB did you no favours today and Sanchez didn't have a particularly great game either. You looked a bit lightweight in midfield too. You lack depth/quality in a few positions and it does show at times. And, as you've alluded to, you've got injuries/suspensions heading into the Ajax game with Kane, Winks and Sissoko all out, whilst Son is suspended. As for Alli, each time I've watched him since he's come back from injury, he seems to be a yard off the pace. He's been dispossessed at vital moments, hogging the ball when he does have it and making the wrong choice in the final third. Maybe he's still feeling the effects of his injury or maybe he's just having a hot-and-cold season, as he set the bar so high for himself, but recently, I haven't seen anything from him that justifies his inclusion in your team. Anyway, we'll see how you do against Ajax. I think it will be a great spectacle.

Yeah we have, we’ve ran the likes of Sissoko, Eriksen and Kane into the ground, two of those are suffering from that with injuries but today's performance wasn’t down to fatigue in my eyes, there was zero fight which for a London Derby is unacceptable. I actually thought Foyth was probably the only shining light, seemed to be the only one (and Rose actually) who actually understood this was more than just three points up for grabs. Dele’s injuries definitely haven’t helped but he does seem to have lost that spark for the most part this season. Hopefully recovers it for next season. The Ajax game on the horizon is why I talk about mentality. I fully understand Tuesday is monumental for us but we were playing our third biggest rival today yet the attitude from most was that of a pre-season friendly against a Belgian league 2 side. If the players want Spurs to be a top team and for themselves to be recognised as top players then games like today need to be seen out before focusing on Tuesday.
Fatigue did play a small role, as that's the reason why Verts was rested (as per Alastair Gold) as a precautionary measure - and let's be honest, over the last two seasons Verts has likely played the most football of anyone in our squad
Disagree with the last part about how we played today tbh. In the first half we pretty much dominated but failed in the final pass but maybe should have scored from at least one of the chances. We stiffled their attacking threat by and large. In the second half their manager changed things and they pushed us back. Pochettino's inexperience and our injuries meant we could not cope with what they did. What I saw was a lot of commitment but in the second half we were simply pulled out of shape over and over again. No Kane, Sissoko, Winks, Vertonghen, Lamela or Aurier in the team or on the bench limits us. I ain't defending how poorly some played but I do not think it was a lack of effort personally. Eriksen, Dele and Son were all pretty poor today and Moura weren't much better...but in my opinion they did put themselves about. I am just hoping it was "one of those things " ... happened 2 years ago and we went on to beat Leicester 6 nil and Hull 7-1 in our last 2 games...but we also had he who must be sold playing in those 2 games scoring 7 of the 13 goals!
Alli has always looked limp and inept without Kane on the pitch. The two of them share an almost telepathic (or should that be: delepathic ha ha ha kill me) link at times. What's worrying is that for a player with so much obvious talent, Dele appears incapable of linking up with our other attacking players and so much of his play is meaningless or wasteful, as he showed against Brighton and again today.
I agree. I didn’t see any lack of effort. Dele looked very slow of thought which was worrying and Son’s touch was terrible but no one else was particularly bad. I also think it strange that people are saying we have a thin squad when the two midfielders who are not available are the two who most people would have sold to strengthen the squad and who have actually performed very well this season.
I would love it if it happened, but like I said, the inconsistency of the sides around you is telling. United have lost 7 of the last 9 games, Chelsea's away form since the turn of the year is diabolical and the less said about our away form, the better. I'd be extremely surprised if your place in the top 4 was under any real threat.
