Mark Allison will attend his final home game of the season on Tuesday before starting his coast to coast charity run in the USA, 2 weeks today! He will make an appearance at half time on the pitch.

What an amazing man this is. He has already done the run from the top of the British Isles, right down to Lands End, in 37 days. Here is the message on his website:

In the Summer of 2007, I ran 874 miles from John O'Groats to Lands End in 37 days raising £34,108 for St Benedict's Hospice (Charity No. 1019410). This Hospice cared for my Mam during her final days battling lung cancer.

Continuing to repay the debt of gratitude to the Hospice in May - August 2011 I plan to run from California to New York in 100 days. This is a distance of approx. 3100 miles and will see me run an average daily mileage of 31 miles.

The funds raised will be split between St Benedict's Hospice (Charity No. 1019410) and The Children's Foundation (Charity No. 1000013) who do wonderful work with children in the region where I live.

It is important to note that, all funds pledged will be passed to the charities. All overheads associated with the run are coming out of my own pocket.

If you would like to sponsor me or would like to know the reasons why I chose those 2 charities, please use the links below to justgiving.com. Use the link on the left for St Benedict's Hospice and the one on the right for The Children's Foundation or why not use both and split your pledge across both charities.

Any questions or messages of support can be sent to [email protected].

Just amazing! I wish him all the best and I will hopefully donate some money before he goes. Even better that he is a Geordie, and a proud one at that.

    Good luck Mark!

I've read about him before, absolutely incredible. I'm sure he has a bad injury as well which has made it even harder for him to train for it! Good luck to him! Its a pretty inspirational thing to do, hopefully he will get more media coverage, he should be on the news in order to spread the word.

Good luck Mark, best wishes for a successful USA charity run. Hope you amass more than than you could have imagined. The Yanks are a fairly generous lot and hopefully they'll put their hands in their pockets and contribute to the good cause.
