I can't believe this.....oh, hang on, yes I can. It's Greg ****ing Dyke and his incompetent moron cronies at the F.A, after all As if the P.L. is not elite enough already, with the differentials of finance that exist - or in NCFC's case, don't , but this gormless proposal would just about eradicate any chance of playing against the best in the land for us, Watford, Bournemouth and remove almost completely the desire for Championship clubs to bust a gut to be the best - if there's no prize up for grabs at the end of an arduous campaign It looks from this as if, as usual, the fans will have no say at all, but the TV broadcasters may well do? Thoughts? http://transfernewscentral.com/2015/11/27/fa-plan-talks-reduce-premier-league-18-teams/
Most definitely wouldn't want to see this happen and not sure Sky/BT would either. There's also the small matter of getting the clubs to agree and yes, I'm sure the top 6 or so would be all in favour, but those in the lower half of the table .......
I thought it would change to a European super league at some point With the amount of money floating around there will always be changes and the super rich will always want more because they are greedy gits is how they got so wealthy in the first place
I thought it would change to a European super league at some point With the amount of money floating around there will always be changes and the super rich will always want more because they are greedy gits is how they got so wealthy in the first place
That would be fine - if the two Mancs, Chelsea and Gooners played in a Euro-league, it would be ideal. a) Teams like us will stand a better chance of survival in this league. b) It would benefit English football as their 'star' players would be more used to playing in conditions / heat / altitude abroad which would prepare them far better for facing the world's best in global tournaments. So shut the **** up, Dyke, I've sorted it out for you - with a little help from StillJarrolds last comment
I think that would solve the problem immediately. Another factor that would help the English players is to limit the number of foreign players that a team can have in their squad!!!!
Absolute genius Dyke. Why stop at 18? look at the Scottish model which is 12 teams, surely that is so much better again. You see you have your season where you play each other home and away, then you play the oppositon again home and away, then at some point, possibly based on the position of the moon, you split the league into two and then the top 6 have their own competition and the lower 6 do something else! So come on Greg, don't p*ss about with 18 go for it, look at the success of Scotland and go for a league of 12 or even 10. This will also unite the country as well because you will have 2 clubs from Manchester, 2 from Liverpool, 4 from London and another 2 from the rest of the country - there you have it, solved! the only downside is that then the excess dross you have just catapulted out of the Premiership will land in the lower leagues. That is another 10 clubs to fit into the current leagues of 24. Just make the season linger, Start on August 1st and aim to finish by the end of July the following year, easy!
Well thought out Scraptoft bor, Dyke thinks turkeys will be voting for Christmas. He would be better employed in putting his talents to improving the standard of referees; that is the responsibility of the FA, not telling clubs how to run their affairs.
Very good Norkie, bit of geographical research going here I see! Scraptoft is literally 300 yards from me up Station Road while the A47 (the yellow brick road) is several hundred yards the other way.
I fail to see how reducing the PL to 18 teams would help the National side, all PL sides would jet off to play outside of the UK in the mid winter break anyway. Plus ever since the goings on with Blatter and FIFA nobody really gives a toss about international football anymore, at least I don't.
