A guy just posted on the QPR fans facebook page, stating that a mate of his who works for the council has told him that we've just purchased the Linford Christie stadium and surrounding land. Yeah I know, how many ITK's do we hear stating this and that??!! But once we knew that the Unigate site was off the cards, this became the only logical site within a reasonable distance of our current ground. If this turns out to be true, and with all the other rumours and comments from Fernandes, and following David Mac's article yesterday, it would seem logical that if the council have sold us the land, the club wouldn't have bought it without the council having seen the plans and giving us provisional approval. Obviously with any building application comes a period of time in which people get to view the plans and make any objections, but with only the Hospital and Prison inmates there to make a complaint, it seems that things are moving forward at some pace now. Although it would still be 3-4 years before we start playing there. While it's going to be a bitter pill to swallow if we do go down, this should at least show fans that we are far from dead and buried. In fact, things are only going to get better! We didn't really deserve to come up when we did. We were a laughing stock of a club with the managerial merry-go-round, board room bust ups, and financial investigations. We just weren't ready. Mark Hughes is largely to blame for our failings this season, but with the club as badly run as it was, it was always going to be hard task to compete and survive in the Premiership. With no Academy, no captain, no scouts and a team of players that for the most part, weren't good enough in the championship, it was just a step too far. This time! Fernandes may have failings, but he knows this and tried to do things the right way, appointing a man he believed could and would do the job, backed him financial and supported him all the way. Alas Hughes just wasn't up to it, but Fernandes hasn't got a crystal ball, but at least he's proved that he will invest in the club to make it successful. So with the expected planning approval for Warren Farm next week, plus what looks like the news of a new stadium, a top rate manager in place, we can now hopefully do things the right way and build a team with a fighting spirit that has a well run club behind it so we can move forward and hopefully see some success in years to come. But just as Fernandes has learned the hard way, I think there are quiet a few fans on here who need to do the same. Rome wasn't built in a day, and some peoples expectations were sky high, some may be too young to have experienced the pain of relegation, but this is football and nothing is given. Top clubs are successful because the club is run well, we weren't and this is the result. The money we've spent isn't the issue, we could have spent peanuts on young hungry players, but then the results might have been the same and then people would have slagged the board for not backing the team. So yes it's a painful blow to be relegated, ignore the wums, or just point them in the direction of any articles that talk about the new stadium and ask them if they really think we're the new Portsmouth. We may be down, but we certainly aren't out!! This is just a temporary blip, we will be back and we will make right all those bad losses to teams who have mocked us. We are in a better state now than when we were promoted, so don't let the pain of relegation get to you, just look forward to what is to come ahead!
This is one Chelscum considered http://thechels.net/2011/03/the-chelsea-stadium-move/ This site has potential..this could be the one...fingers crossed it is true Site for redevelopment http://lbhf.limehouse.co.uk/portal/...y?pointId=1281526103558#section-1281526103558
Noticed we have done this thread before...... last August, and we worked out it would cost about 10million....all makes sense, us having 15 mill burning a whole in our pocket
I don't think that's the site Beth, if you read what the council are saying, they're promoting it use as industrial, housing and it also still has a gazzilion train lines going through it. So it seems unlikely. The site is just north of Hammersmith hospital, although in David Macs article yesterday he does say something about the plans may hit problems due to CrossRail, which I can't see being a problem unless it is the site north of the tracks??
Beth, We've been doing this thread since the first week after Bernie and Flav breezed in. But now it seems to be coming to fruition.
Technically we would simply be going back to our old ground.... Wouldn't we have to eat into the park significantly, i can see many people having issue with this. Does seem a logical piece of land though. East Acton tube station will need some expansion work surely?
Great article LoneRanger. I agree and certainly appreciate the positivity. I think we have the best chairman in the league (although inexperienced in the running of a football club), but with his ambitions and given time Fernandes will turn around. The news about stadium is great and proves that he is up for the challenge of starting from scratch and build a legit premier league club, rather than inherit a shambles of a club that was poorly organised. Forget the last two seasons...... The "real" 4 Year Plan starts in the off-season.
I can't do links, but if you google it there are a couple of articles, one of which is on totalfootballforum.com. Probably complete codswallop, but we are in rumour territory after all...
There was a piece on Talksport this morning that there would be an announcement about the new stadium within two weeks and that the £15 million loan is related to that announcement. It was along the lines of 'positive news about a new stadium'...
doubt it!, that looks like the river Thames in the background, unless the Grand Union Canal has burst it´s banks
Apparently the idea is that a tunnel will be built to allow the likes of Barton to play home games, then go straight back.
I suppose like me quite a few of you on this board played a lot of football on the scrubs in your youth. It would be great to see the R's build a stadium there.
http://thechels.net/2011/03/the-chelsea-stadium-move/ Despite the source, some useful background info:- "The second area, and the one we’ve heard is the more likely candidate for the new site, is at Old Oak Common, just north of the neighbouring Wormwood Scrubs Park, between Old Oak Common Lane and Scrubs Lane. The redevelopment plan for this area can also be viewed on the Hammersmith & Fulham website too. This is close to the existing Linford Christie stadium, also has good transport links surrounding it in Willesden Juntion, North & East Acton stations, and as the area will be undergoing wholesale regeneration, it’s expected there may be more stations in the pipeline as the area is surrounded by existing railway track. Crossrail is also likely to place a station there. Both locations are roughly 4 miles (as the crow flies) from current Stamford Bridge location, yet are closer to Wembley than Stamford Bridge, and not far at all from QPR’s ground; Loftus Road, prompting some fears about an eventual ground share should it happen. The NW10 postcode for the Old Oak Common site could itself be a sticky point for supporters." please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Linford Christie stadium please log in to view this image 2009:- please log in to view this image Running’s in the family: Olympic hopeful Rachel Christie trains at the stadium named after her uncle Does Rachel come with the stadium?
