All over twitter at the moment. It would make sense. His contract is up in the summer and we've obviously told him he wont be getting a new one. Best let him have longer to search for one.
Is it cause he cant take penalties? If he only has a year left then i suppose this works in his favour, there are many others infront of him, hes still young and needs first team football, Millwall?
Waggy still has another 12 months on his contract A load of rubbish. I find it highly unlikely we will terminate his contract
The only way this would be possible is either if he's being paid a fortune and it's a mutual agreement (unlikely but possible I guess) or if (God forbid!) he's had a bust up with Pearson. Even then he'd be more likely transfer listed or loaned out ala Beckford and Danns, so I can't see it myself.
In that case you wouldn't bother terminating by mutual consent, you'd just let it run it's course. Other than a few weeks wages there's absolutely nothing to be gained from doing it early, and I don't see why Waghorn would agree to that. If the club gives permission then he can go looking for a club whenever he wants, the 1 month rule about out of contract players is to protect the club he's currently at, so it only applies when the club he's playing for doesn't want them to leave. The downside to terminating early is that he'd no longer be available for your games this season, unless I've missed an injury for him it would be stupid, what would you do if you had 4 strikers injured in the semi-final and found yourselves with nobody to play up front at Wembley? (Who'd have thought Watford would need 3 keepers on Saturday?)
If that's true I'd be very surprised if he's here next season anyway. As Ricardo said, we may as well hang on to him for the next two/three matches. EDIT: I've looked around the net and does appear he signed a three year contract in June 2010 so it will be up next month (unless anyone knows of an unlikely extension?). Can't see it being renewed to be honest. Nor can I see him being part of the play-offs unless we get terrible injury problems, so he may well have played his last game for us...
His contract runs out end of next month. Wouldn't be suprised if we agreed to cancel it early to give him a head start in looking for a new club. Shame if true but he's not even made the bench since Derby away in March.
It's a shame either way really, he was a very exciting prospect, and when he is given a run in the team, he can be very good. Not sure why he wasn't given more of a chance? I think he could be very good for a team if he was to be their main striker, playing week in week out.
Because he was crap - has all the attributes to be a good player but has done bugger all with them. No way we will be able to recoup any of the money we've wasted on him so fair enough if we just chalk him up as another expensive Sven mistake.
the issue is i think that when he was injured he spent all his time in the gym, bulking on a lot of muscle which lost him a majority of his pace. His best quality was always being explosive and strong - and he ended up bulking up to make himself VERY strong, which wasnt really necessary as he was already stronger than most and so lost his explosiveness. As i result of this, i feel he had to learn to play in a different manner which only a run in the team would allow him to do, and he appeared to do very well in his brief 5-game (more or less) run with nugent up top. However, injury again cut this short and disrupted this. I think if we kept him, sent him on a year long loan somewhere (eg upper league one or lower championship) then we could get back a very, very good player.
Waggy was superb when he had his run in the team. It was just recovering from his op and Chris Wood's form that kept him out the team I much prefer Waggy to Vardy and Kane
