There are posts on both PASOTI and ATD, rumours of course, that if the result goes tits up tomorrow then Fletcher will stand down. Now, I emphasise the rumour bit in that statement. It seems to me that this is actually what a lot of people have been calling for, some for a while. But, is this a be careful what you wish for situation or a really good thing if true. Who is available should that happen? (that we could afford). Wolves failed to fill their vacancy on a "until the end of season" type contract and got the deputy to act up. With us that is Larreau who has no more experience than Fletcher. Is this the right time to change a manager anyway or is it too late to make a difference? I am kind of neutral on this one to be honest. Parts of me wants a change and a change now but other bits think it isn't worth the bother anymore as it is too late. Won't tell you which bits are thinking which one. If we were to win tomorrow night then this might be accademic anyway as presumably even if the rumours were true then he would stay having not lost.
A dangerous time to change a manager with not enough games for a new man to stamp his authority on a team. What is John Deehan actually doing ? We were told what he wasn't doing......and those are the areas that we are desperately short of experience in. I cannot think that Deehan came here to twiddle a pen on a notepad and coming up with fancy ideas to pass on to Fletcher. If he did come with that in mind then he must of been very desperate for a job. The magic of a good manager who can turn this team around in about ten games.........is beyond our pocket at present......or someone employed until the last game against Cheltenham would be difficult to find. Maybe the only solution is for Fletcher to go back on the pitch and Deehan to be allowed to try and scrape together enough points to keep us up as Manager, until the end of the season.......he has had reasonable success in the past........what have we got to lose........because the Fletcher experiment has gone very flat and I can't see it ever working.
I have sympathy for Fletcher: he made the honest mistake of accepting a job which somebody else made the mistake of offering him. It may well be that he has the makings of a good manager inside him but his is current job is one which would be beyond most managers let alone someone with no experience. I fear that accepting the PAFC poison chalice, unwisely but for the best reasons, may blight his future job prospects as well as doing the club no good at all. I can't see why he'd consider standing down. Our results since the end of November have been the best in a long time. They aren't good enough to avoid relegation, that's perfectly true, but in very difficult circumstances at least he's stopped us losing by 2 or more goals every week. If Brent decided to sack him or "rest" in a coaching role while Deehan managed until the end of the season, that's a different decision from a different stand-point, but stand down? No I don't think so.
So it all turns out to be rumour and quite accademic in the end. This has to be the most inconsistant side I have ever encountered. They aren't even consistantly bad.
I thought you would have been on the Red Bus at Charlton tonight plymborn watching them lose and BWP not scoring.............
They don't run Red Buses from Orpington sensible.......I've been possibly three times in four years......with my son and family......and it's less than ten miles.........now if Argyle were only ten miles away I'd be there every home match..........if I could cope with the stress of course......I expect the 700 fans were waiting for a last second equalizer tonight. We'll never know now if Fletcher would have stood down if they had lost......it might happen again soon....who knows.
The more matches that pass by the less likely it is that he will be replaced either voluntarily or by force. The way you have been flogging Charlton and your love affair with BWP lately I thought you were a regular.
It's a pity at present we cannot play all our games away..........the job needs doing before our final game at home against Cheltenham.........I don't fancy us winning that one.
There is a difference to fancying us to win and fancying us to have to win. Some of the results in this league are a bit bizaar at times and form goes out the window. Fact is that historically if Argyle have been in a must win situation they have more often than not failed. Under normal circumstances I see no reason why we could not beat Morecombe like anyone else.
