"According to someone v close to Gianni Paladini, the ex-QPR chairman is on the verge of buying Watford"
    http://www.teamtalk.com/rumourroom/

Ok so it's from TeamTalk's rumour room and therefor as credible as CernyBerny ;)

But just for the fun of it let's debate the issue. Do any of you believe there to be any truth in this rumour or that Gianni would buy any club for that matter?

The most stupid rumours are sometimes correct, I do not see this as one like that. This is only a stupid rumour.

He tried to buy Coventry City in November last year but that did not happen.

I would have thought him and Pompey would have been a good matchup.

He likes clubs with "Rangers" in the title....so he could start up the Glasgow lot in the Highland League or wherever they're going to be next year........

I cant imagine why this would happen now. The current owner is committed to several financial commitments in the near future. It would be stupid to make these commitments and then walk out when money is still due for them.

The only team I would wish Paladini on would be Chelsea.

I'd say Port Vale is far more likely given where he lives and links he has there. If he bought Watford it would be no different to their other recent owners- he doesn't have serious cash so it would be either loans or, I hope for their sake, a wealthy backer with Gianni as the slick frontman.

On the topic, I think Watford is a club with great potential for a proper chairman to come in. Their youth set-up is world-class, it's a big town with quite a lot of potential for growth in the fanbase to the North, especially with Luton's demise, and a short distance from London.

There is one thing that concerns me , Baz has recently stated he wants to pay of all the bonds years ahead of schedule, which would nullify GT`s guarantee of chairmanship, which would pave the way for a new chairman<yikes> Paladini might have more wealthy backers ,but at present better the devil you know than the devil you dont !even if Baz isnt that transparent about the club finances

Will it mean we become a Boutique club as well and attract film starts and super-models down to The Vic? Oooooo can't wait...

Still, I suppose it does make a change from The Steptoe's picking up our "hand-me-downs"

Despite all the vitriol around Fulham and the scum, Watford are probably the closest thing we have to genuine local rivals particularly in our heartlands around NW London. Football is dog eat dog so, while it's difficult to dislike the club or their supporters I wish them a long and painless descent into obscurity under the dubious guidance of Paladini. By the way Watford_R I live in St Albans and by the time you have divvied up football folk into Arsenal, Spurs and QPR groupings there aint much room left for Watford even though they are only 8 miles away. And the possibility of Luton-ites wanting to align with their most hated enemy is fantasy IMO.

I lived for many years in St Albans AAAARRRGH in the converted Church on Verulam Road and went to college in S'norbans too. Full of Arsenal & Spurs supporters as I recall.

Paladini at Watford? Maybe he'll bring B&F along too??
