Firstly just wanted to say I hope everyone has now fully recovered from the weekend of celebrations now. I know I am just about feeling back to 100% I know there is a thread already on potential players coming in but thought it might be interesting to discuss any that could possibly be leaving. Whether its interest from bigger clubs e.g. Chambo, Schneiderlin, Puncheon or Lambert etc. or letting players go that you think might struggle to make the step up e.g. Conners, Holmes, Martin (Loan?) etc. I know that Adkins has said that the same core squad will be kept but I reakon a couple will have to leave in order to make space for a few new arrivals... So what do we reakon...Opinions?
Interesting about which players maybe getting off the bus. I cant see any of our players leaving to bigger clubs other than Punch who will not be missed in the slightest. He was initially replaced by N'Guessen who will not be coming back after his loan so we will need another winger. Martin would be better off going on loan in my view. If NA would hardly play him in league 1 then he isnt going to suddenly playing in the championship. DC is the tough one for me. The problem is that if we do not offer him a new deal and Barnard goes down for a while Lambert will be our only out and out striker. Im also interested to see what you think about Dale Stephens. Is he worth signing on a permanent deal?
Yeh definantly see Puncheon leaving and another winger coming in as I think Holmes is far too injury prone to have around. I have a simular view on Martin but from what I have seen of him he does look decent. DC is tricky, looks good but injured alot and getting on... maybe depends on what we get in. Could see him playing 4/5th choice. I think Dale Stephens has looked really good but saying that I think that a player with championship experience will come in e.g. Brian Howard, Neil Danns or Stock from Donny so maybe he will not be needed. Maybe if he's relatively cheap then it might be worth bringing him in for a bit of cover so Gobern can then go out on loan... what you reakon?
I thought Stephens played very well against Plymouth and is worth signing permanently. I'm also really hoping Peterborough don't go up through the play-offs so we can try and steal George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith off them. I'd offer DC a six month deal or pay as you play contract. But then there's a part of me that thinks he's shown enough in the last few games to warrant giving a one year contract. His hold up play for a relatively small guy is brilliant, in a similar way to Jaidi might be worth keeping hold of to just have around the dressing room as he's got great experience and can turn a game with important goals. Will be interesting to see if our interest in Howard is continued, I suspect a lot depends on if Reading go up or not. Whatever happens I'm really looking forward to who Nigel brings in.
Interesting Points lads.......Puncheon should go even if he now wants to stay. He has not been a good servant to the club at all. David Connolly if only he could stay injury free. Even at his age he could be used as an impact player. Suggest a Pay as you go contract. Holmes another who we have seen little of over time because of injury. Another who would be excellent cover for Lallana, if only he stayed injury Free. Maybe a short term contract with options. Dale Stephens I think is a done deal already. Seemed to slot in very well from the off, a useful acquisition. N'guessen a waste of space Forte not sure about him reminds me of Antonio. Martin, this young man is going to be useful. The reason he has not been used is that he is cover for Fonte, Should be signed. Jaidi will not make the team next year I don't think Which would suggest another left footed or double footed CB. Neil Danns not the right person for me Stock possibly but I don't think we will get any more other than maybe an out and out right winger as cover for Oxo. So I do not think we will get many more signings other than what we already have (loans into contracts and contracts renewed) I really do think there is too much to improve on the the main team only back up and replacements for those that leave.
What's the deal with Guly, I can't remember if he's ours of if he's on loan? If he's on loan, I'd love to see him sign permanent. Other than that, I think Martin will probably go out on loan, I'd like to see how Fish (Joseph Mills) does after his loan spell at Donny Rovers. If Punch signs for Blackpool and they go down, it'll be interesting to see the reaction to him at SMS next season.......arf arf I'm not sure who's out of contract this summer, anybody know??
Guly signed permanently in January if I'm not mistaken. I'd forgotten about young Mills for a second, I think he's been playing left wing for Doncaster so will be interesting to see how much he figures in pre-season. I believe he was on loan at Scunthorpe with our Nige last season wasn't he? I understand the following are out of contract this summer: Jaidi Connolly Martin Butterfield Harding Gobern
I think it is more than likely that all 6 of those players will be given new contracts. Harding, Gobern and Martin probably 2/3 year deals the rest 1 year deals (possibly on a pay as you play type contract). I didn't really think about Mills... no idea what Adkins will do with him! Did he play him when at Scunny? Anyone remember if he did well or not?
Just would like to make this clear now to all Saints fans: No BIG first team players like Chamberlain or Lallana or Lambert will be leaving!! I'm amazed that some Saints fan on other threads are saying that our big players are to leave this summer!! THEY ARE NOT TRUE SUPPORTERS! Did no one see how happy they all are! WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO LEAVE!! http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Gallery/0,,10280~2355529,00.html http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Home/0,,10280,00.html LOOK AT ALL THE POSITIVE ARTICLES BY PLAYERS AND MANAGER! SAINTS ARE GOING PLACES! COYR! P.S. Apologies for the rant
RLGB, I don't think anyone was implying they would want to leave, however, football is a funny old game and if a big team (and I mean like good Premier League team) came in for one of our players then you never know. I personally agree and don't think that any big players will leave. It is great that we are finally not a club that needs to sell our best, remember those days all too well. The article was more about the squad players and which ones might be let go. What's your views on them? Especially those out of contracts at the end of the year
Puncheon - cya later you complete to55er. Other than him and end of contract agreements, nobody is leaving. Hope that helps.
I heard Glenn Murray was off to Crystal Palace. Can't stand the bloke would be really disappointed if we signed him.
Yeh wouldn't be happy with Murray one bit! Didn't even particularly impress me even tho he was part of a league winning side! No thanks
CorteseIsOurLeader..., I was merely stating a point because the moment the window opens there will be other fans, EVEN SAINTS FANS, that begin to make up rumours that our best players are leaving lol
If anyone feels that Lallana (unlikely) or AOC (possibly) is leaving, they are entitled to say so. It's not sacrilege and will have no effect on the outcome. Our biggest asset is Nicola..if he feels disrespected he won't let anyone go.
People are entitled to their opinions mate, but some opinions I can't understand after such a successful season... COYR!
Only if you choose to listen to it. Having experienced Cortese for long enough now, I've learnt to ignore everything that isn't yet official. I would advise everyone else to do the same.
