Chris Coleman has revealed Robbin Ruiter will be out for up to 12 weeks with a dislocated finger.

The Dutchman, who has been a regular between the posts for Sunderland this season, has kept five clean sheets in his previous 11 appearances.

But after dropping to the bench for the Black Cats’ Sky Bet Championship fixture against Ipswich Town last Saturday, the 30-year-old has been dealt an injury blow which leaves Chris Coleman with Jason Steele, Lee Camp and Max Stryjek to choose from.

Speaking to safc.com, Coleman provided the latest team news ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bristol City and admitted Jonny Williams and Paddy McNair are nearing a return to first-team action.

“Adam Matthews is definitely out,” he said.

“Robbin Ruiter will be out for probably eight to 12 weeks with a dislocated finger – a badly dislocated finger.

“Marc Wilson is progressing nicely and maybe next week he could be involved with the group again.

“Paddy McNair, if he isn’t involved with the squad at the weekend, will possibly play an under-23s game which is good for us.”

He continued: “And Jonny Williams played 90 minutes for us in the under-23s on Monday night so he is a bit closer.

“Lamine Kone, after he landed badly on his knee against Birmingham, although he completed 90 minutes, should be okay after this weekend."

Five clean sheets in eleven games doesn't sound too bad, still think he's ****e though. Like I've said many times already give Stryjek a go Coleman, I'm not convinced about Camp mainly because he looks tiny.

If he's out for three months then Camp has a great opportunity to nail the No 1 berth.
Let's just hope he's good enough as young Stryke (spelling) is our only obvious back up as Steele's confidence must be shot.

    Looks can be deceiving.

At 6ft 1in he's taller than Jim Montgomery was, at his best.
Going more up to date he's the same height as Shay Given.

Robbin Ruiter though is 6ft 5ins , so perhaps size isn't everything.

I don't think Pickford is much taller either and it's true what you say but I'm struggling to believe he's even six one he looked like one of the smaller players in our side which is saying something.

From where I was sitting (haven't seen any replays) he wasn't at fault for either goal so hopefully he'll turn out to be a good un.

Just found my old 'All The Lads'.

Monty is recorded as being 5ft 10 ins.

At that height he would be lucky to get into a Wearside League Team today!!!

I wonder how he'd have got on with the modern method of putting a six foot five player right in front of the keeper for every corner. Do we even do that? If we do then we aren't very good at it.

He's definitely thereabouts, he's the one I'd have doing that job, or Wilson when he's available.

According to Wiki both Ashley and Steven Fletcher are 6 ft 1ins

So you probably read it in Roker Report.

Don't like to say this but we are better off without him, we weren't that bad last week and Camp could not do much about the goals, but Ipswich had 2 shots on target and scored !, could have been worse, they did not slacken like we would have, B city were bad last week but ho ho up next the whipping boys, ideal for them like Barnsley, Reading, Sheff u, Cardiff etc, etc. We need to go 6 at the back and catch them on the break.
