Here's a great podcast featuring Alan Johnson MP. ( He should've been the Labour leader instead of Milliband in my opinion. ) A real down to earth man who has a natural connection with real people. please log in to view this image Finney, Chris Charles and Andrew Scherer are invited guests of Alan Johnson MP to the House of Commons to discuss his beloved Rangers. The Labour MP talks growing up in Nottingdale, supporting QPR, Alec Stock, the "showman" Rodney Marsh, selfies with Sir Les, the 1967, Milk Cup and the Play off finals. The politician even wades in the Bowles vs Marsh debate and sticks his neck out to pick his favourite. Alan describes his love of QPR number 10s starting with Marsh and Bowles through Stainrod and Byrne eras and right on to the Taarabt days.
And if you still need a bit more insight into the R's, here's Access All R's featuring Michael Doughty discussing tactics and what Ramsey's New Rangers are all about ...
What's significantly noticeable with the Doughty interview is the level of involvement CR has with every member of the squad. With previous managers we've never heard any of the player's mention what the boss expected of them, let alone a development player. Refreshing? Doughty comes across as a really level headed young man and it's good to see that a young player that has come through the ranks with a realness about him. I can't ever recall a say a Bosingwa interview expressing the same desire to play for us.
I didn't know Johnson was an R's fan. He lives just up the road from me at Crystal Palace, I've picked him up a couple of times on early morning bookings, a thoroughly nice guy and, as you say Nines, the man who should have been the Labour leader...
He sat in front of me for an evening game last season. The game was sold out but he had an empty seat either side of him. Either he invited Tony and Cherie and they stood him up, or Labour Central Office wanted to save him an ear bashing from a disgruntled member of the electorate when they booked the tickets. He left at half time - this was pre-election, so I guess his leisure time was limited. A very able and unassuming man.
