Is it all that ? Or is it an outdated event that should be scrapped ? Would the the site be better put to use with the building of a 40-50K capacity state of the art Football Stadium for the East of England's Premier League football club ? Easy access from the A47 and soon to be dualled A11. The existing Carrow Road ground and surrounding land would bring in several million £'s and could well be far more cost effective than extending the existing stadium ? It makes perfect sense. The Royal Norfolk Show, scrap it ! I have my fishing rod ready
I think it'd be a great site for an incinerator, but obviously it's far too close to Norwich for NCC to approve it there.
i've never ever been. couldn't even tell you what happens there. probably something to do with cattle or tractors or something...
I've never been but the traffic extends my journey home from work by about 30 minutes It's anoying as I live on the new estate behind Longwater it creates havoc in and around Sainsbury's. I would love it to be re-developed into a new stadium as long as they put some decent pubs around the area because at the moment it is dross!
Oh yes...........A load of farmers and breeders getting together to slap each others backs about the large EU subsidy they get for doing their jobs, compare their Range Rovers and drink gin and tonic whilst everyone around the event is going nuts trying to get home!
Wow bile and hatred, its a bit like people who move in to a house next to a pub then bitch about the noise. Don't mean to be funny but you knew what the traffic was like in that area for TWO DAYS A YEAR. Let's be honest the traffic around that junction is terrible more often than not already and if you know the show is on you can avoid the worst of the traffic anyway. So out of you bitching about it being back slapping EU subsidising blah blah blah has actually been there? Its actually quite interesting and a lot of schools go too. Its more than just rich landowners or farmers. Quite sad that you feel like that because of a little inconvenience on 2 days. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Been a few times. Had a signed photo of Andy Marshall from the Norwich stand years ago. Used to enjoy getting a day off school but wasn't so concerned about the show. I think its good for Norfolk to demonstrate its trade and produce but agree it gets in the way a bit. Would be quite a soulless place for a new stadium.
Went as a schoolboy, and that was so long ago, they had Barry Lee and the Planets playing music. Every county has its agricultural show and down here in Cornwall they get record crowds each year. It does cause havoc with the roads for a couple of days but thats it and the showground remains empty for the rest of the year. Popular with the farming and horsey fraternity and a chance for local producers to show off their products. In a word: Harmless
KIO, You are totally deluded my friend. I went to the show today, spent 1 1/2 hours queing from the A140 junction. They can't arrange to get people in and out of the ****ing place for 2 days a year!!! WTF would happen trying to get 30,000 football fans in there every other week. The show it's self is a great event, the traffic control is ****ing useless!! ILD OTBC
Regardless of the show, I would be for staying at FCR. I love away-days at the older grounds. Much rather the occasional supporting post in front of me than to watch football in a characterless bowl. At Carrow Road we are very lucky, it is a very attractive ground with very few 'impaired view' seats. No reason whatsoever to move.
Would save all the desiel transferring the waste to west Norfolk burn Norwich's waste in Norwich if it is safe And keep football at Carrow Road
You think you've had it rough. We've just had IOW festival. Stuck in traffic for 7 hours to do a journey that should take 56 mins!
I agree the bloody traffic is horrendous for two days a year, but that's just it, it is only two days a year. If a new stadium was built there, the access to the site would be re-designed and improved too. That's a no-brainer TBH. Part of me would hate it if NCFC moved from Carrow Road, but sometimes if you want to progress difficult decisions have to be made. Personally, I have an open mind and have just put it out there for debate. I know there are those that love the RNS, how the hell they can afford to go at £22 per adult is beyond me though. Then when you get in you still have to pay extra for this and that unless you're happy to look at cows and tractors all day !
When I lived in Dereham I would have given my right arm for them to close Carrow Road and build a new stadium on the showground site. Getting away from CR always was and remains a total nightmare for anyone living more than 1 mile from the ground. Without fail it took more than 1 hour to get back the 22 miles. Once we tried a cunning plan, drive to Wymondham and get the train - good eh? Well it was until we got the train back after the game - just 3 coaches, it was horrific. I would have thought after all these years a better infrastructure would be in place but there does not appear to be the will to do it. Even the park & ride gets totally buggered up after the final whistle on a Saturday (yeah, we tried that too - it took longer to get to the park & ride site than it would have to drive back home )
I would suspect that if a move were to happen, there would be direct access to the ground from the by-pass.
The original purpose of agricultural shows was to encourage local livestock and crop improvement by awarding prizes for "Best in show" etc. Giving townsfolk an insight into country life and something "different" to gawp at was a secondary consideration. Over the years the importance of the former has diminished, and these shows have lost their true raison d'etre. Since most townsfolk no longer have much interest in gawping at farm animals and tractors, but still like the idea of days off school or work "to go to the show", the whole thing staggers on. My idea would be to keep the show but truck in celebrities rather than farm animals. Think of the fun to be had judging "best in show" in the various possible classes ..........
