Just saw this on the always fascinating Zonal Marking website: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/05/01/england-appoint-roy-hodgson/ It's an interesting and measured appraisal of the merits of Roy's appointment as compared with what might have happened if the FA had gone for Harry. Thoughts?
A thoroughly good read. I picked out this choice quote; Never a truer word said, and speaks volumes of England's media and fanbase.
Yes, a good read and well thought out. I think players LOVE Rednapp and will go to the wall for him. But that might not translate well to an international setting where the love won't matter so much. England is a good team, but it's a team with technical problems holding the ball against pressure. Hodgson's systematic approach will help minimize those deficiencies, but at the expense of fluidity and offense; Hodgson is always safety first. I think England will will more games under Hodgson, but I'm the public will enjoy watching it so much.
It's the final sentence that clinches it for me - "England donât have good enough players to be open and indulge individuals, and therefore Hodgsonâs system-first approach makes sense."
Blimey, according to the L'pool accounts published today, they paid over £8m to Roy when they got rid of him. Hope he sent his dog to open the new account. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2138783/Liverpool-accounts-revealed-35m-wasted-new-stadium-plans.html#ixzz1toT61Q9T
