So WBA have granted the FA rights to talk to Roy Hodgson for the England role.

Two things strike me about this:

    1. Had Tottenham's recent lack of form the reason Harry not been approached?

    2. Is Hodgson the right man for the job? Apparently his international experience that counts in his favour.

    Thoughts?

I've just been reading about this, Hodgson was always in the running, I think he'll have to be tough, the press are always very harsh with the England team manager.

I don't think Tottenhams loss of form has anything to do with Harry being overlooked, some Spurs fans blame Harry for their lack of form, they felt his mind has been on the England job, rather than on his present job.
It hasn't gone down too well that he didn't come out and announce his intentions to commit to the club, so perhaps either way his time is up at Tottenham.

Redknapp will cost the FA £10m in compo, don't think it's an option really. Roy is a solid choice and deserves a break after Liverpool, particularly 'King' Kenny and their fickle fans chased him out of the job (particularly salient when you near in mind he's spend less than a twelfth of what KK has and sit 3 points behind them in the league).

Think he'll do ok, knows international football, but unfortunately hell probably just be the next poor sap who has to carry the can when the media created 'golden generation' once again fail. It's not his fault that the majority of these over hyped idiots that play for England are simply not good enough, or as good they or the media would have is believe.

Agreed totally. Just see the position being a media driven poison chalice!

I don't see the hype around this ****e about an Englishman being a manager.

    Who cares?

A foreigner could do a great job. What England needs is someone to rally up the troops and help develop the young lads. The whole thing about an Englishman is complete horseshit.

I'd personally consider Martin O'neill. He's brilliant at getting the best out of players, and even thought Sunderland have lost their form recently, when they're on form, they are a very solid unit under him.

They need someone in there long term, the press need to lay off them and they have to be allowed to fail before they succeed, perfect example is Low and the German job. He took a crop of young players, got rid of the old guard and brought them together to grow into a team that is unified and understand one another like a club side. At first they did poorly, but he was given time, and the results were plain to see at the World Cup.

Sadly this wont happen, Roy will he judged on how he manages to get Gerrard and Lampard playing together and whether John Terry really is a racist. His every selection will be questioned and undermined by the press and as such any efforts he makes to affect change will be pointless and we will be back to square one.

His CV is better than saggy chops but at international level I feel a figure head rather than a coach is the best option. someone to 'gee the lads' up etc...
So for me it has to be saggy chops..

Think he is the right guy for the job, he knows our players, is a good manager and has international experience. Don't think I'm aware of another manager who fits this criteria. Also Tottenham's form hasn't helped Redknapp IMO.

I wonder after his Liverpool encounter, will he select Gerrard and Johnson - 2 players that underperformed when he was manager?

Liverpool's season has come undone since Gerrard's return - coincidence? Great player but for some reason they just don't function as a team with him on the pitch.

The problem being he actually thinks he is the team.

It really doesn't matter who gets the job because the person that does get it will be a failure unless England win a title. It's France for me this summer, I want to see our boys do well rather than the overpaid pieces of **** that will be running around in the three lions!

Whoever manages England is immaterial. The players are overrated prima donnas and the media should accept that our national side are average. We won't win the Euro's. We will qualify for the next World Cup but will get knocked out in the early stages as we normally do.

Dont actually care who gets the Job...

The team is joke and has been since 1998. We just dont have the players to compete anymore. Do you honestly think we can put a team together in the next ten years that could be anything like as talented as 96 or 98?? And we failed miserably then.

One thing I have learnt from Euros and World cups over the years is that England always let you down. The hunger for trophies at international level just isnt there anymore.

    In addition....

I would much rather Newcastle won the Premiership than England the world cup.

Harry would come with baggage. About £10 mil in compo + he'd want his own staff with him meaning more compo and on top of that wants a lot more in salary than Roy. Harry also wanted his dog on the payroll so he could keep his bank account open in Switzerland.

It will be far less expensive to compensate for Hodgson than Redknapp.
