http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17888928 dont know what to think about that tbh.. he isnt that bad like, but not great either Roy Hodgson approached by FA over England manager's job West Brom have granted the Football Association permission to speak to Roy Hodgson about the vacant England manager's position. Hodgson, 64, has already spoken with FA chairman David Bernstein about replacing Fabio Capello. Bernstein said: "Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set out. "Further conversations will now take place with Roy."
Good appointment, I bet arry is pissed. If Spurs donto start the season well next year the fans will want his head. Hodgson leaving will start a little managerial merry go round. Martinez to The Hawthorns. Di Canio to Wigan.
Would be very happy with this personally. Rednapp may be the first name on everyone's lips but he comes with massive baggage as well. Hodgson has vast experience; been a coach at some big European clubs; coached at a Euro Championships and been successful here in England as well. He maybe unspectacular but in a world full of prima Donna footballers, a level headed organiser maybe just what we ordered. I think he is a very intelligent and like-able bloke who the nation could rally behind and we wouldn't need to pay £10m to gain his services. Dont knock it till you've tried it as they say.
Not confirmed yet mate.. But your spot on about the merry go round. I seen somewhere today if HR gets England Spurs want Martinez?
Certainly wouldn't have been my 1st choice. Reminds me of H.Wilkinson (sorry) with his dull boring voice, however if he is confirmed as England manager he will get my support
Bit of a surprise that they have gone for him without approaching 'Arry and having the semblance of a shortlist. Or maybe they have and he's decided to stay at the spuds !
I was looking forward to Harry trying to falsify passports so foreigners can play for England. Photo shopping Neymars head onto a picture of a chimney sweep in 1900's London "wewll as u carn see Neymars great granddad was a cockeneeeey"
Will never happen but would love Martinez or Holloway to get the England job just to see the football they could get us playing.
Done alright at West Brom, was alright at Fulham. I know he's done fantastically in Scandinavian countries but that's hardly setting the world alight. He was ****e at liverpool. I know the owners didn't back him to sign new players but if he gets the England job he won't be able to sign new players either. Bit of a panic appointment I think, short term. Not quite sure what to think.
for the England job he doesnt have to sign anyone though he has the pick of the best and worst players in the country. and remember king kenny has just spent 100 million with liverpool and hasnt done that much better than hodgson. He also has international experience. I never wanted harry, thought it was a disaster waiting to happen, never really considered hodgson, so hopefully he will be a suprise package, if we want English though (for the manager) he is probably the best other than Pearce that we have got.
My vote early on. Never been a glamour man but a good reliable guy who has never failed. His departure was Liverpool's loss. The best post war managers (Ramsey and Robson) had similar approaches.
That's my point. At Liverpool he had a very average squad and had to do with it what he could. He did poorly. England also have a very average squad next to the likes of Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and so on. I can't see anything better than losing to the Germans in the second round again.
I think you'll find it's a done deal Comm. Just one from a couple who are pretty reliable. .....The emphatic tone of Football Association chairman David Bernstein's statement painted Hodgson as the first and only choice to succeed Fabio Capello rather than a smokescreen to flush Redknapp out of White Hart Lane. Tottenham manager Redknapp may have been "The People's Choice" when Capello quit in February but it appears the FA's four-man selection panel of Bernstein, FA general secretary Alex Horne, director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking and managing director of Club England Adrian Bevington have opted for the conservative approach...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2012/04/england_gamble_on_hodgson.html
