Hodgson, 64, has already spoken with FA chairman David Bernstein about replacing Fabio Capello. Bernstein said: "Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set out. "Further conversations will now take place with Roy."
Good appointment, I bet arry is pissed. If Spurs donto start the season well next year the fans will want his head. Hodgson leaving will start a little managerial merry go round. Martinez to The Hawthorns. Di Canio to Wigan.
Would be very happy with this personally. Rednapp may be the first name on everyone's lips but he comes with massive baggage as well. Hodgson has vast experience; been a coach at some big European clubs; coached at a Euro Championships and been successful here in England as well. He maybe unspectacular but in a world full of prima Donna footballers, a level headed organiser maybe just what we ordered. I think he is a very intelligent and like-able bloke who the nation could rally behind and we wouldn't need to pay £10m to gain his services. Dont knock it till you've tried it as they say.

Done alright at West Brom, was alright at Fulham. I know he's done fantastically in Scandinavian countries but that's hardly setting the world alight. He was ****e at liverpool. I know the owners didn't back him to sign new players but if he gets the England job he won't be able to sign new players either. Bit of a panic appointment I think, short term. Not quite sure what to think.
for the England job he doesnt have to sign anyone though he has the pick of the best and worst players in the country. and remember king kenny has just spent 100 million with liverpool and hasnt done that much better than hodgson. He also has international experience. I never wanted harry, thought it was a disaster waiting to happen, never really considered hodgson, so hopefully he will be a suprise package, if we want English though (for the manager) he is probably the best other than Pearce that we have got.
My vote early on. Never been a glamour man but a good reliable guy who has never failed. His departure was Liverpool's loss. The best post war managers (Ramsey and Robson) had similar approaches.
That's my point. At Liverpool he had a very average squad and had to do with it what he could. He did poorly. England also have a very average squad next to the likes of Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and so on. I can't see anything better than losing to the Germans in the second round again.
