Okay, so I appreciate that most of you are going to go with the "no" option. If the FA extends his contract now and he has a disaster at the Euros, it's going to be a massive PR balls-up for the FA, and why would they want to run that risk! The sensible thing for the FA to do is to say to Hodgson, "Look, Roy, if you do well at the Euros, then we'll talk." What would "doing well" entail? I think most of us would agree that getting to the quarters would be a good result for England - certainly, none of us can expect England to win it! And Hodgon clamouring for the FA to renew his contract now, before the Euros, smacks of a supreme lack of confidence, and bad form. Hodgson ought to be saying to the FA, "I know you're not going to talk about my contract now, but if I get England to the quarter finals, I expect it to be renewed, with bonuses, and if it isn't, I'm off back to LFC." The only argument I can think of in Hodgson's favour, for the FA extending his contract now, is the fact that, under him, a lot of youngsters have been given a chance, and are likely to continue to be given a chance. This is something that all of us were clamouring for, under previous managers. Hodgson could argue, "What ever happens at the Euros, my game plan lies 10 years ahead, with the next crop of youngsters; that's what you're investing in, with me, and why you should extend my contract now, as a show of faith in my intentions." What do you guys think? *Please note, that this is a wum-free zone
What does giving him a longer contract now achieve? It's not like even if we did well in France that a bigger job is going to come up and snap him up. Who are the contenders for next manager if they keep it English? Pardew? Southgate?
It's not Woy's fault. I think England should withdraw from all major competitions until they start letting us win
Indeed! Bloody upstart foreigners! Don't they realise we invented this game? As for Woy, well, I think we may wongly assume that he's not the wight man for the job! Neville is not a bad shout for the longer term, just worry about his man management skills - or lack of!...
Making concessions unconditionally to the Germans would make him very well qualified for the job, I think.
Roy needs to remember that we were absolutely terrible under him at the world cup and him getting a chance to manage the team t the euros is an opportunity for him to prove he can manage the team when it actually matters. Fair enough we're doing well in qualifying but its a pretty weak group Roy's done nothing to deserve a contract extension, he needs to earn that next summer quarter finals minimum, yeah we're not going to win it but if you can avoid the Germans there's no reason we can't progress to the later stages.
I want a manager that will not play Liverpool players, then we will win the lot Woy is crap and should be ditched
You'd have thought that he'd steer well clear of 'Pool players, the way he was treated. Mind you, Sterling is no longer a 'Pool player, and I'm not sure they have anyone else who is an immediate shoe-in.
