QPR have allowed striker Rowan Vine to leave the club to spend a period on trial with Doncaster Rovers. The 28-year-old has scored five goals in 54 appearances since moving to Loftus Road from Birmingham for £1m in January 2008. Last season he spent spells on loan at Hull, Brentford and MK Dons as Rangers won promotion to the Premier League. He will join up with Doncaster on Monday in a bid to earn a deal with the Championship club. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13997780.stm
Did he really only get 5 goals? He seemed so good when on loan and when he first signed. Let's hope that Mackie's injury doesn't effect him the same way as Vine's did.
Vine must've been consistently crap in training. Sounds like he's on a good deal for a QPR player and he's still only 28. Should be key to our attacking plans but is seen as a contractual liability. You hear loads coming out of the Fake Dons about Angelo Balanta and sod all about Rowan Vine...
If he is the player on £40k a week, will he go to Doncaster? They surely to God won't pay him anything near that. I guess, therefore, that it will either be a loan deal where we are still paying him £25 - £30k a week, or Vine will put his professional desire for first team football above money and take substantially less. While it is easy to slag him off, who would be prepared to drop that much money?
Considering he couldn't get in the Brentford team, how's it unfair? Hope he proves me wrong, good luck to him, I don't have a problem with him getting his money. Not his fault he got injured. But him being a bit of a prick and unprofessional, is a different matter.
I agree with Roller, Vine looked the real deal when he first joined us. I read on 606 that he came back to pre-season training last year looking like it was him that had eaten all those pies that we sometimes sing about. In the last few games that he played for us, usually as a substitute, he certainly looked beefy. Perhaps his long, fat contract means he has lost his hunger? (Rather too many references to food in this post?)
I thought he was a good player, the injury finished him I hope Mackie puts his nightmare well behind him or we could have more of the same, Mackie without his commitment would be a bigger waste of space than Vine because he is not half as skillfull. I am sure his desire to pull on the hoop shirt is ten times what Vines is though.
Joining the happy clappers, surprising but I've gotten over that. But using more than 10 words in a post? You're famous for your short snappy replies. What's happening to you man!
Lets not forget how well he played under DiCanio before his injuries. Gutted he lost his bottle and has since acted like a twat. Shame realy, had the talent to do realy well for us.
I hope he gets his head sorted at Doncaster. Was a good player until his two injuried, he also played pretty well under Mick Harford (although this was a temporary management role). i am sure that Vine only has 12 months left on his contract so this season is make or break for him. Gutted he never came back after the injury but here's hoping he can get started again at Donny
His attitude has been very poor for a long time now and he's done nothing on loan on various occasions. We're stuck with him and others on ludicrous wages thanks to Paladini.
Your right Watford, Vine's attitude has to be questioned in the context of character. Sure he was a talent and suffered a serious injury. But he's a recognised professional sportsman, extremely well paid when compared with most people. Still only 28, he has a duty to those who pay him and those who pay to watch him, to maintain a positive attitude, work to get into shape and improve his fitness. I, for one, have little time for privileged footballers who fail to give their all for their money. If that's considered harsh, so be it. There are thousands, if not millions who'd give anything to get the chance Vine's had and still has. In Vine, we should still have a precious attacking option... and sadly all we've got is an ongoing bill to pay.
rrrrrs how right you are a fit Rowan Vine could still be a good player, I remember how well he played under Di Canio and what a shot on him.
