Other top teams play some kids to blood them. Plays a full team in the Carling cup, due to having no kids to play. So much for Chavs youth, who cant get a game. Th(o)ughts
Why do you care? Kurt Zouma played last night and is about 19. We also gave run outs to some of the players on the fringe of the first team such as Mikel and Luis (what a free kick by the way by the second best left back in the league - behind Apilicueta). We could play kids and get beat 4-0 by a MK dons like you did. What a way to build confidence for those players! Ultimately Jose has respected the competition and the opposition and played a strong side. What's wrong with that? You're only annoyed as you could smell an upset if he played a load of untested kids.
We have no history either. So no past, no future. We only exist in the now!! You have much to learn of the living force, young Twatawan. I think Chelsea is an illusion, we exist only in the minds of the fearful. We are the fly in your soup, We're the pebble in your shoe we're the pea in your bed, we're the bump on every head We're the peel on which you slip the pin in every hip, the thorn in your side, makes you wriggle and writhe And its so easy when you're eviiiiiiiil This is the life you see, the FA tip their hat to me we do it all because we're evil and we do it all for free......... Your posts are all the pay we'll ever need
We have some of the best youngsters in Europe who play for our academy, it's just a shame they'll never play for us. I thought Mourinho would change by playing them a lot more but he's shown no indication of doing so over the past season and a half which is very annoying. It sounded like Loftus Cheek was going to get some substantial game time the other night, he got around 7 mins. I thought some youngsters would play last night (I don't count Zouma as he was signed in the summer for something like £12m!), but no we start our best players. Whilst this is a semi wind up thread, it's true.
I agree to a large extent and if we were at home I think he'd have used more younger players. But away to a high flying championship side this far on in the competition, it would have been a risk to dismantle the team too much. The problem also with playing kids is fringe players don't get a look in and then that can cause more unrest. Schurrle, Mikel, Luis, Cech, Drogba and Remy aren't getting many games elsewhere and if you don't play them in these games then they'll never get a look in (save for injuries and suspensions). I think it's a hard juggling act to maintain a very high quality squad AND bring through youth. Jose is probably not the man to do that but he invariably wins trophies. He may well win the league cup which was so important as a catalyst for success back in 2005...and could be again. That's why he's putting out strong sides. I think a lot of people now just completely disregard the league cup (and even the fa cup and Europa league to an extent) and expect reserve and youth to just play these games. Each to their own but I'd like us to try and win everything we go in for.
1995 - a number of kids played in a 3-0 home defeat to York City in the second round of the league cup. Members of the fabled class of 92. Worked out great.
How many, if any were not bought for large sums? I know we do it as do most clubs but we also develop local talent in large numbers from very young ages.
Mourinho is a no risks type of manager, his tactics are no risk, and so are his team selections. There is no way he would take a risk and give a young player from the academy a chance. Even in a cup game against lower league opposition. It's ashame really, as some of the Chelsea youngsters may well be pretty good, they've done well in the youth cup on a few occasions, but they won't get a chance under Mourinho
Seems cruel really. They would be better off elsewhere. At saints acadamy or at uniteds where young players are given the opportunity. Even a 4-0 hammering to league one opposition doesnt stop them getting chances here.
Can anyone name a young academy player that Mourinho has ever given a debut to at any of his clubs, and has gone on to be a good player? I honestly can't think of one
Nonsense. He takes risks like all managers all the time. He took a risk playing half of our established first 11 despite being in a tight title race and still in Europe. They could have easily picked up an injury of suspension and be missing for more important fixtures not to mention risk of fatigue over a busy xmas period. We lost Van Ginkel for most of the season last year when he got injured playing a COC game against Swindon.
