Since Rotherham is one of the less familiar teams we've played so far, thought it worth mentioning the last time we played them. That was also on a Tuesday night - 30 April 1994 - and it was in Division 2 (as it was known then) The “Millers” travelled down to Craven Cottage under the joint managership of Archie Gemmill and John McGovern. We had Ian Branfoot in charge. A Sean Farrell goal, watched by 5217, settled the match in Fulham’s favour. However, that win was not enough to save us from relegation as we slipped into the bottom tier of the Football League that year. Plenty of other things have changed since then, of course. Also on that day - Pele - our highly sucessful Brazilian scout - got married to Assiria Seixas Lemos who was nearly 20 years younger than him - so that is why he needs the tablets! At the risk of being controversal - my internet search says 30 April 1994 was a Saturday!
Not controversial at all Fred - accurate. My memory was also pear shaped about who was in charge. Branfoot didn't take over until the next season. In season 1993/94 it was in fact the clueless and confusing Don MacKay who was in charge for most of the time, with Ray Lewington taking over for the final 9 games. Despite it being an awful year we managed 52 points and would have been okay (just) if they hadn't changed it to four teams going down in (I think it was) 1992. Oh, and keeping the Pele scouting thing going Gary Brazil was top scorer going with 14 goals.
It was also my 8th birthday. This thread is therefore making me feel rather old (even though I know I'm not)!
I'm pretty sure I was at that game. If memory serves, it was a tense affair with only relief when Julian Hails crossed for Farrel's goall, just about the first time all day one of our players crossed early rather than delaying for too long. I seem to recall that Farrell and Hails were both coming back from injury. I thought it was going to be just in time to save us from the drop, but we lost away (to Swansea? Think so) on the last day of the season to slip back into the relegation zone. I had turned 26 a couple of weeks before the game, and my boys weren't born until another millennium on the calender and another era in Fulham's story.
