Surprised no one else has really commented on this yet but how bad was Liam Rosenior yesterday? He just didnt look interested at all. His crossing was atrocious and he just didnt seem to link up with anyone. I was disappointed in him as i thought he would be chomping at the bit to get a game and take his chance to prove he still has a big part to play with the team but after today im not so sure. Maybe i am just being harsh by trying to compare his performances to those of elmo in recent weeks but if he gets another chance and plays like that again i think it might be time to look for another back up full back
Reckon he'll get a run in the cup, so we'll see what happend there. If he just can't be arsed or he's sulking because he's on the bench, he doesn't deserve to start.
Like many of our players from last season, he isn't good enough for how good we are now I'm afraid. Sad but true. Leroy on FLS must be talking through gritted teeth when complimenting us at the minute
Rosenior is not a wing back type, so unless we play 442 then his chances in the team will be limited, the same for Andy Dawson, and to some degree Dudge, but he can play wing back if necessary.
Interesting how IF we got promoted, we could use Rosenior and Dudgeon and still have our wingers if we wanted to play a 4-4-2. Rosenior ----- ------ Dudgeon Elmo ------- ------- Brady
Dudgeon played quite well at LWB when the formation was first changed! Rosenior just isn't a wing back, his crossing is nowhere near good enough. But if anything it was the pitch that didnt help Rosie yesterday. In the first half he went to cross a ball and ended up making a bunker next to the corner flag. Even Elmo would have struggled yesterday, and kudos to Robbie Brady for being creative on such a terrible pitch. Roko needs to learn not to give up and have a sulk when he's having a crap game too!
I wonder if the fact that Rosie has lost his place has miffed him and that this has affected his form or attitude. Not saying it has, but I wasnt there yesterday so cant comment.
From what I witnessed Rosie did ok as a defensive fullback yesterday but the lad knows we are playing a completely new format in 3-5-2 these days and he's not that type of player. Not sure what the future holds for him though beyond June at the Club.
Nonsense. Totally disagree with you. He did more than ok and defensively was very good. Hard for anyone to be as good at crossing as Elmo is.
I think Rosie is history, a crying shame as he's been great for us, but he simply doesn't suit the system we're now playing.
I think this is true unfortunately, I love Rosey and he's a great full-back for midtable side but he offers nothing going forward really. How many goals/assists has he got in two years? 0? Elmohamady must have 5 or 6 assists this season already.
Does the OG in the last game last season against Forest count as an assist? From where I was sat I thought he'd scored himself
he doesnt fit in the system atm but what if injuries or suspensions force a change in formation back to 442/433 ?
If he goes then we replace him with a player that makes that change less likely. 2 players for every position in the team in the formation you want to play is the target for a squad. If we keep players like Rosenior and Dawson who don't fit the current formation then they're taking up spaces from players that do fit it. You obviously get 3 or 4 on top of that 22 for a 3rd keeper and to allow you to change if you want to, but you don't plan for forced changes of tactics if by doing it you make it more likely you will have to change.
Strange how most on this board were shouting the praises of Rosenior prior to this season .His crossing was no better then than it is now .He is still a better squad proposition than Dawson or Ginga Ninja for a fullback role whenever there is need for a formation change when we come up against tricky/speedy wingmen or when we need to close out a game.
But we play 3 centre halves, making the need for players in that position greater (Macca) and he's been excellent whenever needed this season.
Not that strange. Prior to this season we were playing with full backs and Rosenior is one of the best in the division. Now we're not playing with full backs so he doesn't fit in.
Does anyone not think we need the versatility in the squad to switch to another formation when required? I think Rosenior is quality but just because we're playing this formation now, that doesn't mean it will always suit us. Especially if we get promoted. For the quality he has I don't think it's worth replacing him with another full/wing-back and it's certainly not worth writing him off after one debatably dodgy game. He wants to be here, has been (and still is) a great servant to the club and we should honour that. Last season most people on here were saying he was one of, if not the best RB in the league. I think he can still do a good job for us.
Not the same Rosey yesterday as we all know, but he hasn't played too much lately and to come in for the full 90 mins on that pitch he did ok. Too have him as back up is no disgrace, he would get into most starting line ups in this league...playing in a 442 that is.
