It seems that Danny Rose has appreciated the games that he's been given in this pre-season and he's taken the opportunity to have a dig at our former manager: âIn the past Iâve never been able to compete fairly with Benoît. Benoîtâs been outstanding for the last three or four years, but now weâve got a manager who treats people fairly, and heâs not afraid to drop people if theyâre not performing, so I hope that can work well for me this season. Itâs not nice when you train hard every day and people are allowed to sack off training and still be in the starting XI. Sometimes itâs the name on the back of the shirt as well. Obviously Spurs have been in the top four or five for the last five seasons or so, so I know itâs hard for anyone to break through. But at the same time it is frustrating, and itâs great that now the gaffer is not afraid to drop people if theyâre not training hard enough.â Now, I have a couple of problems with this. The first is that he shouldn't be making unprofessional statements like this, especially when he seems to be questioning a teammate's application publicly. The second is that I'm not sure he did enough when he was selected, either as a winger or as a fullback. I questioned Redknapp's approach to squad rotation for years, as I'm sure most of you know, but Rose seems to have quite an attitude and I'm not sure it's healthy for the squad.
He was never good enough to compete before and imo still isn't plus he got that stupid red card in the away game agaisnt Villa when we needed a win, so he has some cheek to come out and start moaning about not being picked when under Redknapp we was a top four team and in the champions league at one point. Rose will get found out this season from a defensive aspect so hopefully he won't moan when hes dropped seeing as he is quoted as saying ""and heâs not afraid to drop people if theyâre not performing""
He has an attitude after his form for Sunderland as they made him believe he's the next Roberto Carlos, and be awesome if he's actually that good but hes typical of the cocky young players who mouth off before they have done anything in the game.
I don't know if it's meant as a dig at Benny. He does say how good he's been for some time. Also, where he talks about the manager "not being afraid to drop people", he's not necessarily referring to his preferred position. Let's hope he can deal with being dropped like Boss says, because it's inevitable based on what we've seen of him in a spurs shirt so far.
actually, even if benny is going then its a terrible thing to say. I'm sure members of the squad, most of whom are better than Danny, don't want to see this little twerp mouthing off to the media about them
I read this interview and although it was an interesting revelation about Redknapp (if true) it is highly unprofessional of the lad to come out like this and if I remember correctly its not the first time he has mouthed off to the press as well. He needs to shut up and get his head down and PROVE he deserves to be starting, its all well and good working hard unlike those who apparently "sack off training" but if you're not actually good enough you won't displace a better player. Interesting claims though I guess, but not the time and place to be airing them.
Rose was gash against Espanyol, if he wants to be starting for Spurs he needs to be performing a lot better than he did last Saturday that`s for sure. Silly comments if true.
I reckon he's trying to force a move myself. Can't imagine why he would publicly bringing a teammate into it if he wasn't looking to be off. Not happy with his conduct myself and the chances are PDC won't like it either.
Jesus! I hope that Fryers makes the grade at LB. Okay, so it's got to be a good thing that Benny has now got some real competition, especially if he was slacking in training, but I agree with others, it isn't a good thing for team-mates to be slagging one another off in the media; leave that sort of stuff for the dressing room.
It's a sort of accidental dig at Benny, he's just caught in the crossfire a little bit in what was intended to be a compliment to the new boss. Besides Benny started it back in January by saying he's unconcerned about Rose as he will start ahead of him. I can't see it causing any problems.
I don't think it's a dig at Benny. It's more a case of giving AVB the respect he deserves for being fair. And if being 'triffic' was enough to get a starting slot instead of hard graft then I'd be a bit pissed too and would not think twice about letting it be known. HR admitted himself that Benny doesn't even know who playing next. That may sound cool and cute to some but for me it sounds incompetent in the context of sport.
He should NOT be in the media putting his team mates down though. Regardless of the merits of him being selected or not.
He didn't....he told the truth about his treatment...Benny is caught in the crossfire. However I doubt it will affect him, I bet he does not even know who Danny Rose is never mind that he's competition!
Same difference imo. The lad needs to be a bit more careful about what he says if he's gonna be mouthing off to the media. Its irrelevant whether Benny notices, i'm sure someone in the squad will note Mr Rose effectively bad-mouthing a team-mate for lack of effort.
Of course it's a dig at Benny. I reported towards the end of last season how Benny and Adebayor were having their own personal competition to see who could get the most club fines, such was their disdain for the management. AVB and Benny fell out in the first week of the season last year, and the relationship hs remained strained ever since. Benny did indeed "slack off", but for Rosé to bring things like this into the public about a fellow teammate is immature and unpardonable.
There's no doubt Rose should have kept his thoughts to himself. If you read what he says carefully, he just barely manages to avoid publicly criticizing anyone except Redknapp. (The player who didn't train could be VDV, for example.) But sentence two supports sentence 1, and the whole thing reeks of nasty innuendo. I'd like to chalk it up to a young player not having learned the wisdom of us old folks: "better stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt." But it does nothing to make me want Rose to start at LB. And I really didn't want him starting at LB to begin with.
Rose's attitude stinks of stale old ****. This isn't the first time he's bemoaned his lack of playing time, the fact Redknapp gave him his break at LB shows a complete lack of respect to say what he's said. To be honest, I don't see what AVB sees in Rose to play him over Benny (though some recent claims have said Benny is injured... Spurcat?). IF we are to sell Benny, which I bloody hope not, then I really expect a new LB brought in as 1st choice, whether that be Coentrao or whoever. Rose isn't, and in my opinion never will be at a calibre good enough for our side unless he remains back up which he clearly isn't interested in. Even in the friendly against Espanyol he was caught out a number of times, admittedly he did make some good darts forward but defensively he's woeful in my opinion. AVB nearly made a huge mistake last year by casting Dawson aside only to end up heavily relying on him, I hope he can make the same U-turn with Benny. Benny has his faults don't get me wrong but he's still head and shoulders above Rose and many other LB's in the Prem. We're lucky to have him, there were times when we relied on Gilberto, Atouba, Thatcher and others I care not to mention.
