DANNY Rose, Carlos Cuellar and Lee Cattermole have been ruled out of tomorrowâs Stadium of Light clash with Swansea. The trio have all been receiving treatment over the last few weeks after Rose and Cuellar (both hamstring) limped off in the FA Cup third round clash at Bolton and Cattermole suffered a relapse on a knee injury during training. Although the three are making progress, tomorrowâs Premier League encounter has come too soon for them. Martin OâNeill said today: âAt this moment, I think it would be too early for them. âTheyâre coming on very well, but I need to see how things develop in training today.â Meanwhile, OâNeill insists he remains hopeful of adding to his squad before Thursdayâs transfer deadline. Striker Danny Graham, who will visit the Stadium of Light tomorrow night with Swansea, is Sunderlandâs main target, although former West Brom midfielder Paul Scharner is not thought to be on the Black Catsâ shopping list despite claims from his parent club, German side HSV.
We have actually done okay without there 3 in recent weeks anyway so I'm pretty confident the team tomorrow will be good enough to cope. Will we win? Who knows. Will we lose? I think not.
Wouldn't be surprised with 0-0 tomorrow, Swansea are a very solid and good team. We have a tight defence, I just don't see many goals in it.
I agree - last time out, it was O'Shea who was 'not quite ready to play', but hey ho there he was on the team sheet....
Cueller no loss, Cattermole not played in ages and Colback filling in ok at left back. Same team that beat Wigan.
Yup. Marty did say tho lets see what develops in training. keeping his options open methinks. Would be a bonus if they were on the bench to make that stronger.
Laudrup looks a class manager for Swansea, nobody is taking much notice of him because people think he's just inherited a decent side from Brendan Rogers. Statistically he's doing a better job so far. That LC Final will eek it's way into the minds of the players now though, expect them to be pulling out of 50/50's. A physical approach from SAFC and you should boss this fixture.
A very good point, kick a few of the hard in the first 10 minutes and they might not fancy it. I think we can get a result tomorrow, depends which Sunderland turns up though.
It's a ploy, Catts is having a night on the lash.. ...................................... BLACK Cats star Lee Cattermole is once again free to drink in his home town after a four-year pub ban expired. The 24-year-old Teesside-born midfielder was banned from bars in Stockton for three years in December 2008 after being arrested for disorder on a night out in Yarm. Police had been called to the Keys nightclub by door staff and Cattermole, former Middlesbrough FC captain Matthew Bates and Cattermole’s brother Gavin, were subsequently arrested and given fixed penalties for a public order offence. It came after Cattermole, of Aislaby village, near Yarm, had received a previous warning for bad behaviour in the town. The former Boro star, who signed for Sunderland AFC in 2009, appealed shortly after his barring, which was considered and refused by the local Pubwatch group. He again contacted them in December 2010, to request his ban be reconsidered, but it was refused by the steering group as only one appeal is allowed. After the Pubwatch scheme received “numerous reports” of Cattermole breaching his ban, it was extended to December 2012. However, Steve Paling, chairman of Stockton Pubwatch, has now confirmed the borough-wide ban has now expired. “However, every individual licensee has the right to refuse entry to premises without reason,” he said. “And we know a number of licensees in the Stockton area who won’t want him in their pubs.” Matthew Bates was also handed an original two-year ban alongside Cattermole in December 2008. Stockton Pubwatch is a voluntary organisation whereby groups of licensees, with support from Stockton Council licensing department and the Police district licensing unit, call time on troublemakers in pubs and clubs. Those barred under the Pubwatch scheme are unable to enter most nightspots in Stockton, Yarm, Billingham or Thornaby. Breach of a pub barring is a civil offence. A Sunderland AFC spokesman said the issue was not something Cattermole or the club would comment on.
Cuellar and Rose are having late fitness tests: http://www.clubcall.com/sunderland/fitness-test-for-duo-1538322.html
It's Rose that we need back, gives us much more energy and pace down the left side when he's in the side.
