Now I’ve always said I haven’t been the biggest fan of Cody in recent years. He has of course had great times, particularly with Akinfenwa in League 2 but recently I’ve never thought he has been the ’20 goal a season striker’ clubs so desire. After having seen the first few games of the season, JET has clearly been the main striker. 5 goals this season sees him as our top goalscorer and 4 of those have been scored when Cody is the other man on the pitch with only the wonder strike on Saturday being scored when JET has been partnered by Rory up front. However, I feel that maybe playing Rory with JET could be the best strike partnership especially with Dack playing in behind. When I watch Cody play, he likes to spend his time, not going wider than the area of the penalty box whereas Rory is very happy running very wide, working the channels. Now this could mean he has a weaker link up with JET, but it could also mean it allows JET the chance to drive through the middle like he did for the Shrewsbury goal. It also means Dack may have the opportunity to drive through the middle because Rory is pulling defenders away – Do they stick with him? Or do they leave him be? This then creates confusion in the back line allowing space in the middle for a JET, or a Dack to drive forward into and have a shot at goal. Watching back the highlights from the Shrewsbury game, you can see Rory peeling off wide when JET takes the shot. Now while he may well have scored that goal if Cody had been on the pitch, but I reckon Cody would more likely have been in the middle of the pitch, meaning perhaps one extra body would have been in there – Could they have blocked JET’s shot or fouled him? I don’t believe Cody is the striker he was in League 2, at the moment. He may get 10 this season, maybe even 15 but Rory is also very capable of getting that amount of goals while perhaps getting even better out of a JET or a Dack.
I've always been consistent in saying it and I will say it again...Cody and Dack in my honest opinion, should not be playing in the same team. That is no disrespect to Cody, he was great when Bayo was around, but there is no way I would even think of dropping Dack, so if I was the guvnor it would have been time for Cody to move on. Did anyone see the programme about Alf Ramsey choosing the 1966 world cup winning team and why he dropped Jimmy Greaves, he was the a goal scorer through and through but he did not suit England's style of play and the gelling of the team, and sadly I see Cody exactly the same. Look at any arguments in favour of Cody, it's always about the number of goals he scores, not his ability within the side or whether we actually won the match! We all know Cody is Scally's golden boy, well that's how i see it anyway but Dack is an all round player, hence why he has pound signs above his head and Cody don't, just ask Norwich and Coventry why he never got continuously in their teams, some are a Championship above and some are a Championship below, I fit Cody in the latter, probably even League Two, I await the wrath. So quite simply if I had to choose between the two players in the OP, it's not rocket science who would be on my team sheet in front of Dack.
