http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7107778,00.html So Santa Cruz would consider a move to a 'powerful' club in a 'huge' stadium. Given that these words clearly describe Southampton do you think Santa Cruz would come here? More importantly, would you want him? Clearly a class player who's struggled with niggles and being at a club signing a new squad every season, but would he cut the mustard at St Marys?
No chance - Too much of an ego, wages far too high, doubt he'd want to drop a league either so will probably end up playing abroad if not in the Premiership
Of course it's a serious question, hence why I posted the article! I didn't pluck this out of thin air! He's clearly tapping up a move to Leeds but if he would go there, why not here? Greg, read the sky article, he would consider the championship, agree with you on wages though, particualrly when Nigel has openly said this week that he won't break the club wage structure.
Marty, the fact he mentions Leeds is just a subtle joke, they can barely afford free agents, let alone a over paid Man City player. Have a word with one's self. McFly.....
Why would his agent openly suggest that Leeds could be in with a shout of signing him as a 'subtle joke'? I'm fairly confident that agents don't do that in the national press. Unless Papa Waigo's agent was talking about him coming back here as a joke as well?
Never trust anything an agent says. I expect that link to the Norwegian striker earlier this week only appeared because his agent is using Saints as a way to get higher wages out of Pompey.
No way he would, and even if he did, no I wouldn't. We're trying to build a team without egos and overhyped players. Let Nige and Nicola keep operating in the way that's proving so successful thus far.
I don't doubt Santa Cruz's agent is trying to rustle up interest as he isn't going to be part of the squad at City. Clearly though initial reaction is that his interest in the 'powerful' championships clubs wouldn't include us, or interest us!
He's using Leeds United as leverage to get other clubs to chip in with loan offers. We won't actually be able to afford anything like his wages, no matter how much Man City subsidize them by, it's just the same old agent routine of using a big-name club to attract interest from their divisional rivals who'll want to beat them to the player. These big-name moves never seem to come off as expected in this division anyway, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much even if United do somehow fluke a move for him.
Would i take him, potentially - he was in form of his life before his fatal move to Man city. Would we go for him - not a chance, would cost a small fortune in wages and does not fit the profile of recent purchases!!
Blimey, that is quite possibly the most sensible comment I have ever read from a Leeds fan. Good work.
What if city paid his wages? Hell, if Cardiff could afford Craig Bellamy's wages (!!) surely we could strike a deal?
Fair point, but he scored 19 goals in his first season at Blackburn and his all round game play was excellent. If he could rediscover that kind of form he would be a quality signing for anyone. Don't get me wrong, he went to Man city like so many others have for mega bucks, and has paid the price for that. On talent only, would be worth a gamble.
