OK, we are into silly season, and all sorts of rumours about Rooney, will he go will he stay, and either way I am not too bothered, as no one is bigger than the club. My point is that whilst Rooney can be a match winner with some of his exceptional skills I do worry about his periods in the season where he "loses the plot" and becomes just an average player.

If you study the times of Rooney's drop in form, you will find that nearly every time he has personal off the file problems, or something that causes him personal stress, then his form takes a severe downhill spiral. The mains times when this has happened can be found during the following times

    1. His naughties with a lady of the night that got spread all over the tabloids was the first example.

    2. The accusations against his dad for supposed bet fixing. Although this was untrue, the stress still lead to a drop in form
    3. The birth of Kyle
    4. The illness and passing away of Coleen's sister
    5. The birth of Klay.

This isn't a criticism of Rooney, as some players can handle stress, some even find it a motivation to play better, whilst others let it fester and it ruins their concentration. If ,and ony if Moyes decides the keep Rooney, it might be worth considering dropping him completely if future events lead to so called personal stress. However, give me wages of 250, 000 pounds per YEAR rather than per week, and I wsill give you a cast iron written guarantee that I will live a stress free existence for the rest of my living days.
