Rooney is a fantastic club player, on his day, but chokes on the international stage. Drop him Woy, please!
Rooney offer no support to Baines which means he got doubled on. Going forward he offer no ideas or quality other then the cross He was a complete waste of space. But i fully expect him to start against Uruguay

Doesn't really match the other players around him really. Young attacking players trying to move the ball up quickly stifled by Rooney coming deep and slowing the play down. When he snatched the ball off of Barkley I was fuming!
Rooney is a great player, we see it week in, week out in the Premier League, but he's wasted out wide. Either play him in his natural position, or drop him, there's plenty of other options.
Agreed - Costa Rica cruelly exposed the weaknesses of this ageing Uruguay side ... personally I have doubts whether Suarez will be fit enough to play (certainly he will be considerably below his best) .., I'd put the Ox in for Danny Wellbeck play two up front (Rooney and Sturridge - Rooney operating just behind) and have Sterling play where he does for Liverpool ... pace is key ... I'd also play Luke Shaw for Baines ... we have to win this one and getting behind them and getting the ball in he danger area from open pay will be key ...
Thats the thing right there. He is a great player but we as a country like to big him up as world class and the one who can win us world cups. Simple fact is he isn't that good. The media have destroyed Rooney with the expectation and now whenever I seem him in an England shirt in meaningful matches he looks scared to try anything out of the ordinary which sets him apart from the average player. I don't think he enjoys playing for England like he used to Playing him out wide is a waste of time because he has lost that explosive pace he had 2-3 years ago. I would drop him for Uruguay because simply he hasn't been performing. We need to stop the special treatment of him and just treat him as one of the team and maybe then we might see him perform close to his ability

Remember watching him as a teenager playing for Everton. Astounding pace and ball control and left our defence for dead before burying it in the back of the net. Still has enormous talent and am pretty sure that Uruguay and Costa Rica would be delighted if he didn't play. To be honest, I haven't seen him perform week in and week out since teams started playing just one up front. Up to him to prove a point.
The closer we get to the game, the more likely I think it is, that Woy will stick Rooney behind Sturridge and move Sterling out wide.
For me Ross Barkley has to start. He reminds me of Rooney when he first broke into the England squad and thats when Rooney played his best football for England Oxlade Chamberlain has done a lot of work today in training with the team and one to one. Maybe there trying to rush him back as he played really well in the warm ups
I'd be very surprised if Barkley gets to start against Uruguay ahead of Rooney ... I suspect this one may get a little 'physical' ...
I predict Henderson will get sent off if he plays - did he actually do anything against Italy? Can see Lallana starting.
Barkley will be able to handle it. He has impressed me immensely this season for Everton, he is the best English talent since Rooney's early days.
Rooney is as much a left winger as Joe hart is a striker. Play him as a left winger and you get a performance like that. Play him up front of just behind the striker like he has done for the past 5 ****ing years to great effect at his club ( who for 3 years have had similar issues to england, no midfield and no defence ) and guess what, he scores and he creates. Rooneys stats from last season put every other English player bar sturridge to shame. Almost a goal or assist a game. But hes **** right My question of the day is..... what other nation plays their best player out of position?
