Swindon have agreed to Luke going to Burton on loan. Obviously not come up to expectations there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19751127
Luke was a favourite of mine at Priestfield but the lad is now having to face up to the harsh reality of life. He sought out his adventure with a person (Di Canio) that I believe he admired as a young player. I wish him well but words of wisdom I would give is always question your agent(s) - not those (Hessy, Di Canio) with experience that attempt to guide you in the right direction.
Isn't his agent his father? If so I'm sure he has Luke's best interests at heart and only wants his son to do the best he can. There's no shame in going on loan to Burton. They're a good club. I wish Luke all the best for the future. He is, after all, an ex Gill and should be afforded the respect of the fans for the pleasure he gave us during his time here. As should all ex-Gills (with 1 certain exception mentioning no names)
I agree with your comments Gemini. Also I did think but was not sure that his father was his agent. However, I can only speak as a father myself such as you, in sport we want the best for our sons but our belief is sometimes higher then their actual current ability, which can be clouded even more by pay cheques. Nothing wrong with a step back though to L2 and Burton, if the frame of mind has matured. The experience from Gillingham and Swindon can reap its rewards, if not, then sadly the lower leagues will be payment for any failure to learn and develop from here on in. Meaning maybe I was just wrong all along and he never possessed the skills I thought he had.
can i just say this thread sound like its gonna be a comparison in some way of how we have moved on from having luke rooney to deon burton and the benifits of that!!
I have heard all kinds of stories about his time at Swindon. As always there is probably some truth and a lot of bull but the crux of it seems to be Di Canio is not a fan of Rooneys attitude, he seemed to think he would walk into the starting 11 at Swindon and when he was given a run out he was greedy. Some ways I wish we still had him at Gillingham every now and then he pulled out some real class, but then 80% of the time he tried to do it all himself and lost the ball.
