4 assistants? Not going to be that hands on then Wayne Rooney: Birmingham City appoint ex-England captain as manager - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67055334
Halfwit as a player, halfwit as a manager. People might look at what he won, but consider he stood still from age 18 and think if he'd had the application of a Ronaldo.
After ditching Eustace I sincerely hope this goes completely pear shaped for the owners. He hasn't actually got a good track record in the management game has he.
He did ok at Derby, but it was hard to judge considering the clusterf@ck they were in at the time. Then left there to manage DC United, but failed despite having resources. Overall it's just a big name appointment with not much to back it up. You'll not know how good he is for a while because of how well Eustace has done so far, so he may get get credit for someone else's work, but if things go on a downer quickly he'll cop the blame. Though I think it's more likely that he'll flop than be a success.
Typical US owners . Maybe it will work, but it already was! There are a lot of decent teams in that league, and if promotion is his target or instruction, he'll find it harder than he , or at least the owners, think.
Seemingly Ashley Cole is public enemy No.1 at Birmingham. No idea why mind, but a mate of mine who is a Villa man, tells me they are spewing about that bit especially.
Harsh. You dont become Man Utd top goal scorer if you stand still from 18. I saw a lot of him at Derby County. He impressed me a lot. He got some good football out of a limited bunch and handled everything about their administration really well. Everytime he spoke it was common sense and honest and he put good coaches around him. No idea how he will go at Brum, and Eustace didnt deserve the sack. I wouldnt be surprised to see Rooney succeed somewhere though. Certainly has more about him than Lampard imo.
Talksport were pulling themselves off over Birmingham yesterday saying they had the potential to be massive. Based on what? Why has this never been said before?
Seems like a very accurate summary. It's always interesting to see how top players take to management, I don't think Rooney's got the intelligence for it but he's not quite as daft as he looks and he's got the right mentality. I'll make a prediction that he'll be a decent championship level manager. No better and maybe a bit worse.
The stadium is a mess, they need to sort that out first ... ... then they can get back to the glory days of playing second fiddle to Villa.
Americans take over...then they go chasing a "Famous name" even tho the current manager is doing a decent job. I'm not sure even Birmingham fans are totally convince with this.
John Eustace is a top bloke, I looked after him from 19 he is honest and a decent man, unlike Rooney, I delt with him twice both times he was an arse,
You seen what the holding company of the owners is called? Says everything about how seriously they are taking it
