according to the papers rooney wil be made captain on vidic's departure? i dont know about your feelings towards this but i feel its a last gasp effort to make rooney stay. i always believe that a team is better skippered from the back or midfield, and not from an attacking position.imo that the captaincy would be better in the hands of jones or fletcher.your thoughts please.
Threaten to leave - Get a new £250k p/w contract Threaten to leave again - Get a new £300k p/w contract and made captain Genius!
It does seem that way unfortunately, he's gone down in my estimation quite abit. SAF usually gets it right with players, and you can now see why he wanted Rooney gone. The guys become far to big for his boots. I'd if sold him to Chelsea and used the cash and extra 300k a week in wages to get someone more deserving in
He made it part of the deal to be captain. He basically said 'I want 300k a week and I want to be captain, or i'm off to Chelsea' Obviously Gollum agreed. P.S. From what I gather he's hardly a genius
Been there years, won everything, has experience to rival any player and always gives his all. Thats why hes been suggested as captain. Not sure I agree with him being captain but I can see why. After all Gerrard is the captain for similar reasons at liverpool as is Terry at Chelsea...
A captain has to be respected but not liked. Does the United team respect Rooney in that sense, someone who wanted out and thought the club were not buying players to match his ambitions which pretty much equates to him thinking some of his team mates are not up to his level of greatness. I doubt he commands that kind of respect where players will try harder for him, he'll be a token captain. Rooney is not a leader, ticks many boxes but not leader. Too quiet and too rash. Evra would make a better captain.
Regardless of whether or not he's a worthy captain, he was right in thinking that the club hasn't been enough ambitious these last few years. But there isn't anyone else we can make our captain if leadership, quality and experience are the criteria.
Aye, but Evra may be off at the end of the season, along with Rio, Vidic and Giggs. So who's left with the seniority and time at the club? Carrick and Fletcher are the only other two who really spring to mind, but they're too quiet. Think Rooney will end up being the default captain simply due to his experience and time with the club, until one of the younger or newer players shows they can step up.
