I wrote some time ago that I thought Wayne could be the answer to our midfield " crisis " and yesterday he gave a master class, straight out of the Paul Scholes training manual. Of course it has helped our situation that RVP has settled in so quickly and taken up the goal scoring mantle but I still think that Rooney will become our new " Ginger Prince " !!!

His passing is nowhere near as good as Scholes and he gives the ball away too often with sloppy passes that are designed to be "cute".

Well it's not at scholes standard but I actually think he has a great passing ability. He just goes for the Hollywood pass a little to often when more simple passes are on.

Were you at the game ? I didn't say he was perfect yet but he put at least 3 or 4 40+ yard passes to the feet of our wingers, his tackling and work rate are already better than Scholesie. He played several great through balls, that could only have been seen and executed by the Ginger Prince himself. He was head and shoulders "Man of the match " yesterday and I for one think that he could develop this role to the benefit of the team.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound patronising and yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that no matter how many cameras Sky and/or BBC have at the match, unless you are there, it is impossible to see all the movements off the ball by any of the players and to appreciate the amount of work that Rooney gets through in a game. I'm one of Paul Scholes' biggest fans ( a true United legend ) but he can't go on forever and I think Fergie has had it in mind, for some time now, to develop Rooney as his eventual replacement.

No problem. I agree that Fergie sees that role for Rooney but I think the lad still has a lot to learn.

Rooney's long range passing is brilliant especially to the right wing although he hardly passes to the left wing, but where i feel he is still lacking is in his short passing and his ability to dictate a game with with one touch short passing and controlling the tempo of a game with his passing which Scholes is a master of.
Plus he is always looking for a killer thru ball which is not always the best option in terms of keeping possession, but maybe the more he plays in the attacking midfield position the more he becomes used to keeping a hold of the ball with short passes and moving the opposition defence around to create better opportunities for the team

Rooney lacks the overall game intelligence to dictate a game from midfield in the same way Scholes does. Scholes is an English Iniesta, his passing range and overall vision is wonderful. He's in the top 3 intelligent passers to grace the English game, the other two are Xabi Alonso and Jan Molby.

Brilliant. Molby and Alonso two of the 3 most intelligent passers to grace the English game! <laugh> And all from the Man Utd fan as well.
