It seems increasing numbers of people are forgetting one of the best and most important aspects of Wayne Rooneys game. A major part in what makes him a world class footballer. Its not his ability to be everywhere and anywhere, his match winning goals or his tireless fight. Its his ability to compliment other world class footballers while maintaining a world class level himself. Few players can provide support and quality at the level Rooney can alongside some of the worlds very best. Van Nistelrooy and Rooney were a brilliant combination while I don't even need to mention how good his partnership was with Ronaldo. Now he's doing it all over again with Van Persie. The latter even went as far to say he moved here in part because of the chance to play alongside Rooney. Nobody can deny Rooney has his limitations but while so many managers have a continuous headache trying to juggle world class players that compliment the likes of messi, ronaldo, ibrahimovich and more Rooney has made sure Sir Alex has never had that worry.
Great post. Just curious if you have a link about Van Persie claiming Wayne Rooney as a reason for choosing us. Not that I don't believe it or anything. This also goes hand and hand with what you said, but Rooney's ability to adapt into different positions and tactics also make him world class. He can play pretty much anywhere on the pitch and still be the best player on the field. It makes it easier for someone like RVP to adapt into an entire new system.
Definitely. It's hard to think of many players who are equally good at leading the line and scoring 25+ goals a year, and can also play a supporting role for a top class striker. Rooney has formed great partnerships with RVN, Ronaldo and RVP (maybe it's an R thing ) and has also shown he can lead the line himself in 2010 and last season. And the fact he's apparently 'not been in good form' for about the last five years just makes it all the more impressive
Good post I have no doubt with RVP and Rooney we have the most clinical and lethal striking partnership in the premiership. Even when we had such major doubts about our defence and midfiled we were winning games ...because of the strikeforce. At the risk of tempting fate, I cannot see a match in the next 11 that we should not win with these 2 at the front.
That's why Rooney works for Manchester United, both have been in decline for years now, and are declining more and more every season
Rooney's work has been underrated by mostly everyone, Despite Rooney not scoring much goals as he did this time last season, he is helping the team, for me Rooney is still our key important player, in Matches where Rooney doesn't play is when we see the difference like for example against norwich when we lost, his hard work for the team is really impressive, he was played on the right or the left this season and done really well. That's what also makes him a world class player. When Rooney is playing it's like we got an extra defender because one thing i really love about him is that he always comes back to help the defense out, he's everywhere. His link up play and understanding with RVP is fantastic. This season he has been unlucky with injuries but despite being out injured, playing in right wing or left wing at times and playing a supporting striker role behind Van Persie, eh still notched us 13 goals and many assists too. im sure Rooney will score more goals this season, i believe he will give us 20 goals this season, i wouldn't be surprised if its more then 20 too also many assists too. Everyone is too busy looking Rooney's lack of goals, they are not looking at his work rate and his hard work for the team. Rooney keeps us ticking. his work rate is fantastic, even when he's not playing well, he still keeps us ticking. I remember seeing alot of rival fans after the real madrid game saying he's "over-rated" " he's not world classs " and all them rubbish, well they don't have a clue what they are talking about, Rooney was played out of position on the right, often he didn't have much support at the first half when Ozil and Di Maria was rampaging down that side but after second half he improved. Even though that was not his best game, he was still helping and contributing for the team. Helping out in defense and he kept us ticking. He still got a assist in that game. That's also another reason why he's world class, even when he's not having a good game, he is still contributing to the team. I love Rooney for his work rate. Always start laughing when i see rival fans slating Rooney ebcause they don't really know much about football, or see him play or they are just soo much bitter towards him so they can't admit the truth that he is world class.
there are some talks about PSG wanting to pay 40m for him sell or not sell? his form is not as before and he is only getting older .. doubt he can give us his work rate as before after 2-3 seasons
Certainly wouldnt want to see Rooney sold because who on earth would we replace him with? Who offers that combination of work ethic and quality, the ability to be not only the heart of the side but the superstar? Few if any players have those qualities and even less can put both to good work at the same time. Can anyone fill Rooneys shoes, maybe a few players to do the work?
Out of interest Sean, what is your gripe with Rooney? Dont tell me its the City thing. People make mistakes and Rooney is as thick as a human being can be off the pitch.
YES it is the city think ..he treated the clubs, fans and the manager like sh!t .. unacceptable .. and according to the Sun he is still as thick http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...graph-fans-Manchester-United-memorabilia.html anyway i still like him as a footballer .. but something had been broken that day .. anyway if I was critical on him lately is simply because his current form .. i said nothing in the past because he was playing well regardless of what he did in the past .. he used to do better on the pitch ..simple as that
Sell? Are you mental? In 3 seasons he'll be 30... We should easily get a good 6 more seasons out of him, maybe more the way some of the current older players are going. It shouldn't even be in question unless we got offered silly silly stupid money
That's a tough one! Ronnie is obviously a better player, but Rooney is so important to our team now it would still be hard to justify letting him go.
