I see that the next England manager will be picked from interviewees that must contain at least one black/asian/minority fella. Surely then it'll be a case of them interviewing say, John Barnes, and John Barnes knowing full well that he is just a token gesture and that he has no chance in getting it. This would cause more upset surely? If I was black and was asked in for an interview I would tell them to f**k off! Whether or not there is racism floating around where a black person has less chance of getting his foot on the bottom rung of a ladder in football management is up for discussion, but to be forced to interview a certain race of person for a top job stinks.
The Police have been doing this for years, under instruction to increase their ethnic minority numbers in preference to others who might well be more highly qualified but are the wrong colour or gender. The whole inclusivity to prevent the Politically correct brigade from having a fit is an absolute joke and in an odd way is an actual insult to the ethnic minorities, or is that just me thinking so. The whole world has gone completely bonkers.
A PS to the above, Yesterday Theresa May was shuffling her cabinet colleagues and the BBC were saying it was to accommodate more women and ethnic minorities as the present Cabinet is seen as having too many white male members. Eh........
Chris Hughton will be sick of going to England interviews. He's the only one who has a chance to be considered!
****ing sick of the race card. Racism is hateful nasty cruel behavior designed to mock, hurt, belittle and devalue. What the hell has any of that got to do with best person for the job from the applicants?
I was a prison officer for over 20 years and I was on the race relations committee in the prison for a few months. I resigned from it specifically because of this type of reverse discrimination policies
Absolutely ridiculous. People get jobs on merit. The amount of pigment on their skin should carry no weight to their prospects of getting a job.
I know a lass from Birmingham. My mate Donna, a black lass. Her grandparents came over here from the West Indies after WW2 on the Windrush. I remember her telling me one time that she'd turned down a promotion at work as she thought they'd only given her it cos she's black. She reckoned there was better qualified candidates than her. She hates owt like that.
Good points all but I believe that since the imposition of the 'Rooney Rule' in US of A the number of ethnic minority coaches particularly in the top jobs, has increased. It's not hard to see why either. The Team Owners who make these selections are all white, rich, mostly conservative and would never, normally, consider giving the post to a Black. But when compelled to interview one they will sometimes spot obvious talent and give it a chance. I detest both political correctness and racism but I see no harm in giving this initiative a chance. It can't do any harm and might do some good.
[Well I've got away with using the word honky. That mustn't be racist. Is it ok to quote Elvis Costello & use the term 'white ni****?
It a derogatory term towards a race so why isn't? I like the word and use it to my white mates often, but if ****** is ok for black people to adopt as a term of endearment while hateful if used by others, I'll use honky to my hearts content. But it's a racist term no doubt.
Perhaps it's just that some are prepared to take offence at the drop of a word, while others couldn't give a toss at anything that doesn't actually hurt them. For example I've never been bothered about being referred to as a 'Brit'. MOST Australians don't care about being called 'Ossie's'. Both of these terms are often meant to be offensive, but it doesn't work if the person that they are aimed at refuses to be offended.
Was thinking along the exact same lines . Nail. Hit. Head. Similar to the age argument - if you're good enough you're old enough. These things should be based on ability and ability alone.
It's a fact that there should be more ethnic minorities finding their way into coaching positions. Who is to blame I have no idea. Could be the system. Could be them. I don't know. It's also a fact that it needs sorting at the grass roots before they implement something like this for the top job. It's an idiotic idea to bring the rule in until they've actually generated some qualified BAME coaches. Not a fan of the rule as I think it's a quota and quota's are wrong. I do think more needs to be done though.
This is the way that the FA works. They allowed a racist into the FA (that bloke who coached the women's team) and then tried to cover it up To counter this f**k up they then make another f**k up in a futile attempt the cover their backsides
.... Mackems rule.... EDIT:this was an insult used by the darkside to refer to us. It quickly became a badge of honour for us (Geordie's with brains,??) which vindicates what you say. Too many PC do gooders are the problem imo resulting in this law. Commonsense is overruled once more.
U learn something new every day..... How are Brit and Aussie abusive? I learned where the word righteous comes from yesterday...
I always described my local shop as the Paki's, short for Pakistani's. Nowadays I have to stop myself from saying it, especially in front of my daughter. The only time that it can be offensive/racist is when there is a swear word attached to it, in my eyes.
