He is the best all around striker in the league, its hard to defend against him because he'll be everywhere, when United are defending, he's always there defending too, he plays soo deep to help us, and he gets the ball and mostly starts attacks, it's like playing with an extra men when Rooney is playing because at one point you see him defending and picking up the ball from the defense and starting the attack and then you then see him up front attacking. That also helps his striker partner too. Its hard for the defender's because Rooney's everywhere, you see him defending then you see him in midfield then you see him at his position up front. Rooney is our key player on Monday. I wonder where all the people who were writing him off last season when he went through that bad form? people were saying he's past it, he's finished and everything? they've gone silent ever since that Rooney's over head winner against City. I also hear our rival fans saying England should not take Rooney to the Euro's because of the ban, England needs him, he may be out of the first two games but if England hopes or progressing through the knockout stages they need Rooney because he is England's best player at the moment.
Think i'd have to disagree there and you won't like who i'm going to say but... despite his theatrics at times i'd have to say Drogba is the best all round striker in the league when his at his best, the performances he put in against Barca were absouletely outstanding attacking wise and even more defensive wise. Rooney would be next best imo but i have to say Drogba as the way he defends is amazing especially at corners
Haha what a fail on so many levels, Drogba has a few decent games which included atrocious gay play acting and now he's better than Rooney what's his goal tally this year, last year? What's Rooneys? Last time Drogba was in for a personal award? Whens the last time he got MOTM in the league? At his best? What few times a season? What a ****ing fail Ps the thread is about the league, not two CL games with Barca as you have mentioned
Wow calm down. You do realise Drogba is 33/34 and Rooney is 25. Rooneys in his peak Drogba is past his peak yet the performances he put in vs Barca were remarkable that's all i was saying and over the years i'd still take a Drogba in his prime over a Rooney in his prime. The thread is about the best all round striker in the league, yes and correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't Drogba play in the league..... And he doesn't have a lot of goals compared to Rooney because he hasn't played nearly as many games, was at the ACON for 2 months and doesn't take penalties. He still probably wouldn't have more anyway because as i said he is past his prime and it seems he is only capable of performing in the big games. If you are talking about the best all-round striker in the league there has been in recent years and that is still in the premier league then it is Drogba hands down and i don't see how you can disagree, take the Man U glasses off and you might be able to see .
I love the excuse that someone doesn't take penalties. Apparently if you're no good at penalties then you're a better player.
didnt drogba beat rooney to the golden boot when rooney had his best season goalwise? i think that year rooney getting the players award over drogba was a tragedy, suprised they managed to see past him and give it to the deserving RVP. As a UTD fan this debate is a non issue for me, drogba of a few years ago over rooney anyday, he is beeter in all departments in a like for like comparison rooney was/is a very good player, but there are better in the epl alone
I do actually agree with that to a degree. I think rooney in his 'dual role' at UTD (ie shoring the midfield and up front) has been pretty good and not many players would do that However I do think his poor performances (which he has admitted to) have been a result of him being knackered (maybe injured?), BUT he has kept on scoring As a striker I think there are better than roo TBH and goals (gonna sound stupid) are not always the best measure of being a good striker. For example (and you can laugh) I think torres would have been lethal at UTD just because of Valencia alone. with nani and or young he would be IMO on par with the goals scored by ronaldo and messi this season Even carroll would be a goal machine the way we play
This. Can pass better, link up better, switch play better, generally just a superior player over Drogba anyday
have to say I disagree with this hendy At the risk of the usual shouts of plastic etc rooney has IMO been far from any of those this season. In fact I would argue that he is the most likely to lose the ball in the team of late. I think the rooney we signed had a lot of that and more, but (and it may simply be from being knackered from his current role) despite his goal return he looks at times average Hopefully he will pull something like the overhead goal on monday and you can laugh at me
Now don't get me wrong we all know that Rooney is media hyped but I do think he is a better all round player than Drogba who is great as well, hopefully he will just score on Monday, I'll be happy with that
This. imo Rooney is a better all round player but Drogba is a better out and out striker. Rooney controls games and starts many of our attacks which can reduce his ability to do the spectacular stuff he used to do. Drogba doesn't tend to drop deep as much and get involved in the build up, but as a result he finds it easier to isolate defenders and bully the crap out of them. I'd rather have Rooney over Drogba, but if the team already had a creative number 10 like Silva then Drogba would be best to play off him. Rooney is also more consistent in terms of his goalscoring and contributions. He rarely wins a game all on his own like Drogba effectively did for Chelsea in the first leg against Barca, but is more likely to pitch in with goals and effort in games where Drogba would go missing and start whining at his team mates.
