Rooney's 2 match ban was upheld today despite the appeal. Therefore Wayne will miss the FA Cup semi final against City. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/12995661.stm On a similar note I just got around to watching MOTD 2 from Sunday 3rd April. Seems James Beattie was observed swearing on camera after giving the ball away which gave Fulham the lead. I know there are differences i.e. live TV and time of day but surely if one player is going to be disciplined for his comments; all players need to be reminded of the need to watch their language regardless where they are on the pitch.
Absolutely. Will this mark a sea change in terms of players being regularly disciplined for bad language, or will Rooney just be the latest high profile player to be made an example of before business as usual resumes. I know what my money is on...
Swearing on the pitch and swearing into the camera at people is completely different. But because it's Man Utd obviously you've been treated so badly, you've finally been treated the way the rest of the league would, get over it.
He didn't swear into a camera. A camera was pushed into his face after he scored, whilst he was swearing. Just as Beattie swore whilst the camera was on him.
Well you tell me, Drogba is the only player i can recall shouting into the camera but he got a 4 match ban, Unfortunately it's seems Wayne is just can't keep away from the cameras. But i bet if a Stoke or Wolves player did it then it would be a 3 match ban
Rooney was stupid to swear into the camera, that's a given. However he didn't swear at a match official or an opposition player. So please show me in the rules where it says you can be banned for swearing into a TV camera? The FA themselves on their website say: 'Rooney had admitted a charge for the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language.' But where in the laws of the game can a player be banned for using offensive, insulting and / or abusive language? If Rooney is banned for such behaviour then surely every player caught on a TV camera doing the same should be punished.
I believe Drogba got it reduced after appealing. Also Drogba seconds before was arguing with the ref over a decision and had to be pushed away before turning to the TV camera and giving his outburst. The 2 examples are polls apart.
Because there's how many people watching the game on TV, Wayne comes over and swears into the camera at all the fans watching the game, did similar during the world cup moaning at the fans down the camera. Swearing on the pitch is effecting one person, the person being swore at. Do you think maybe they didn't make a rule about it because not every player seems to have anger issues like Rooney
Sorry the TV cameraman went to Wayne not the other way round. How can the FA enforce a rule that doesn't seem to exist or at least only exist when it suits them. Steven '2 fingers' anyone? please log in to view this image
Not according to the rules. The rules say that the use of insulting or abusive language or gestures anywhere on the pitch, and at any time, is a red card offence and a two match ban. Rooney deserved what he got, but Gerrard, Beattie and all the other players who regularly swear on the pitch deserve the same. Otherwise where's the consistency from the FA?
Drogba got a 6 game ban, 2 of which were suspended. His ban was reduced from 4 to 3 on appeal, with the two suspended carried over as well.
I bet you're wrong, given that a Blackpool player did it at the weekend and got no ban. Also, the rules state that it carries a 2 match ban so why would a Stoke or Wolves player get 3 games? Also, Drogba was banned for threatening behaviour towards the referee and for insinuating that he cheated. Great point though. Well done
Apart from the Drogba incident which was completely different ( calling ref a cheat and pushing him ) where are your examples of United being treated like any other league club would ? The picture above of Stevie Me telling the ref to **** off and giving the two finger sign at the same time just about sums it up !! The Cantona 9month ban, the Ferdinand 6 month ban and now this, shows quite clearly the FA ( stands for ****ing Arseholes ) have two rule books one for United and the other for the rest. PS has Tore received his two year ban yet ??????
Yeah didn't notice it,But I agree all need to be punished, it needs to be clear out there now that you will get a 2 match ban for this offence.
Agreed Now the F.A. have the high ground and should call in all their referee's and instruct them that anything similar will be reported and the same outcome will be applied with no exceptions. Then and only then providing they keep it up (which is doubtful given previous campaigns) will they then be able to move on to addressing the whole team harassing the officials. Happy Days
Bet your right there, It is because cameras always follow Rooney and anyone at Man U as soon as they say something, Some action is taken.
