Scholes was in the wrong, he must have known that even if Rooney never read or saw it the press would give Rooney grief about it at a time he needed to be focused on England's first game.

No he wasn't, he had an opinion which Rooney has thrown a hissy fit with.

    You can relate to that.

  7. Of course Scholes was in the wrong. Fair enough, everyone is entitled to an opinion but he's supposed to be an England fan, a possible mate of Rooney's and a ex-team mate at both club and international level. If he wanted to pass comment, why not in the previous twelve months of his retirement? Or wait until after the World Cup?

Probably wants to carve out some sort of media career for himself. I know it's aided by a ghost writer but his opinions are generally interesting.

  9. Maybe its just how he is. Only reason we've not seen it before is because Fergie kept him under lock and key to hide his twatiness <laugh>

News travels slow in South America. Didn't Scholes make these comments last week. And Mathh, did you make a thread about it then?

He sure did. He will make the same thread again later today.

And yes scholes was in the wrong. For a guy who never spoke to the press he seems pretty keen to do so now. Dont know why.

Scholes was definitely in the wrong.
I agree with what he said, it just didn't need to be said, and definitely not just before the World cup is about to start! <doh>

Bit more to it than meets the eye by the look of Rooney's end comment.

I don't blame Rooney seeing his arse on this at all. It was unnecessary to say it and the timing made it worse.

It's made even worse by the fact Scholes might yet remain an employee of United. I don't get why he had to say it.

I think it's brilliant that on this board matth has one thread defending Rooney and another virtually defending Scholes' opinion.

Perhaps he genuinely wants England to do well and genuinely believes that England would be better off without Rooney in the side

    You cant say that.
If Wayne hadn't played they wouldn't have fielded 10 men in each qualifier.
They surely would have replaced him with another player. Then again, you never know with Woy!

The form Wazza had in the qualifier's has vanished but England would be crazy not to play him in a major tournament, his temper and petulance might be a bigger problem than his loss of England form in Brazil.
