Just a short while ago, both Swansea City and Norwich City were coming off the back of highly successful seasons in The Premier League. Now both Clubs are in turmoil. Swansea's manager has jumped ship, and the Norwich boss is looking to do the same. When you consider that there are only twenty Clubs in the top flight, and both were very comfortably ensconced in their respective positions, are they showing a degree of insanity by risking their careers? What is it about football managers? Why can't they be content with their lot? The average football fan, many of whom are either out of work,or in unfulfilling jobs, can only marvel at such cavalier behaviour. After all, there are very many out of work managers who would jump at the chance of securing positions with such Clubs. The attraction of managing "a big Club" seems to dominate the thinking of these two individuals. How long though before they need a new fix,and look ever upwards in search of an even "bigger Club? Can they ever be satisfied?
It's called ambition, Vetch. Most of us try to be the best at what we do. In football, it's a food chain and we ain't at the top of it.
Damn its got to be worth putting a sneaky tenner on that, no better not knowing my luck he will be getting an approach from clubs such as Ebbsfleet this time next summer
Can they ever be satisfied? clearly not, they are hooked, like junkies looking for their next fix, but a mans got to know his limitations! I'm sure Rodgers will learn that lesson at Liverpool! And I'll be there....................
I knew from the start that Rodgers wasn't a fence sitter , he was a jumper . Every chance , in his eyes , to boost his career would be taken & this is his latest . I think Liverpool & Rodgers will have a very messy season , hope I'm wrong but I see Rodgers in the race for the first firing .... stay tuned
I think it's simply a case of ambition. Yes, it's good to know your limitations, but you don't know what they are until you test yourself. You might be right and he might get found out, but he'll never know unless he tries. For many managers their goal in life is to manage at the very top. They have every right to try. Better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all. There is nothing wrong with failing. It's part of life and helps us learn.
What a lucky man Rodgers is. Unemployed one minute, then offered a lifeline here at Swansea City. It turned out to be a match made in that place that atheists like me don't believe in,but for those that do - heaven. So who was a lucky boy then? Did he kiss the blarney stone? If so,it sure as heck works. The union turned out to be of mutual benefit, since Swansea City are now a Premier League Club. As a result Brendan Rodgers has assured himself a revered spot in the history of our great Club, and deservedly so. Football fans are a fickle bunch, and always want things to go their way. They are quick to fall in love, but even quicker to fall out of that most euphoric of states. The love affair is over, and the bitterness of many is already starting to manifest itself. For me,Rodgers was always just passing through, but his departure has been a bit premature, and I feel a disappointment that must surely afflict many others. He is a very affable, agreeable even loveable man,and I will miss him. Seeing him being interviewed in his new role at Liverpool will not be something I will be looking forward to. I wish him well, although never against Swansea City, that's MY Club. What made him go so quickly? Well,of course, his ambition on the one hand, but could the dreaded "second season syndrome" have also played a major role. His stock was sky high last March, when he was rightly chosen as Manager of The Month. Only one way to go from there,of course, and a poor April saw him lose a little of his cache. So,perhaps he looked into his crystal ball, and thought,"What if we struggle next season, and go down?" Should that scenario have unfolded, perhaps the doors to the so called "big clubs" would not have been so readily open for him. One thing for sure though,is that Swansea City F.C. will continue to prosper, and win even more friends, and our neighbours will continue to cast envious glances down The M4,and wish they were more like us.
Excellent post Vetch. I agree that Swans will continue to prosper. We'll all look back on this and wonder what all the fuss was about. Roll on 2012-13.
